Combat RE: Revelations 2 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Combat is one of most important aspects of the game, no matter which episode or campaign you play. In both cases you will face various enemies on your path, some of them appear only in Claire or Barry's campaign.
On higher difficulties it is very important to save your ammunition. Sneaking up on enemies from behind and killing them with a single melee hit will be very helpful in that. In many places using that tactic is very easy, as all you need to do is wait for enemy to turn around and, while crouching, walk towards him until you will be able to deal a finishing hit. If you have Smokebomb bottle in your equipment, you doesn't need to worry about being found at all - you are almost invisible on territory where you throw the bottle.
No matter what sort of enemies you face, remember about few rules. Most of all, aim at weakspots (orange bubbles) or at head/torso to deal more damage. In case of weak enemies you can use knife or crowbar/bricks, especially after increasing the amount of damage dealt with those weapons in the ability menu. You can use help of Moira and Natalie in a different way - Moira will blind your enemies making them temporary vulnerable to finishing blow, and Natalie will show you the location of all enemies, including invisible ones. It works through walls as well. Moira can also finish up knocked enemies.
Enemies
Weakest enemy type which you will meet in both campaigns, are undead. While in Barry case they shouldn't be a trouble, in Claire campaign they might be quite troublesome - they become much faster and deal more damage. In both cases you must watch out and not let them catch you. In Claire campaign you might face enemies with a red abscess on their head. If you kill them with a shot in the head, in Barry campaign there will be an explosive slime in the place where they had died. Last type of weaker enemies is an opponent that explodes whenever he gets close to Claire or Moira. You not only receive damage from him, but the screen becomes blurred, so try to make enemy explode from distance, by shooting at his insides.
Harder opponents are large enemies with axes for Claire campaign and mutants with weapon connected to their hands for Barry campaign. Best way to deal with both those enemy types is sneaking up from behind and silent elimination. If it is not possible, use shotgun against the first ones (aim at their chest) or let Moira support you by blinding them with flashlight. In Barry campaign use Natalie ability to find enemy weakspot - shooting any other spot than orange bulb is much less effective. Being hit by harder opponents ends with bleeding - if you don't want to lose health points, use tourniquet.
Special sorts of enemies are invisible maggots that fly above ground. They aren't aggressive until they spot the player. You will find them mostly in Barry campaign and at the end of Claire campaign - in both cases you can't get close to them as it will end with death of your character (the screen will get gradually more blurred as you will be getting close to enemy). Only Natalie can see those enemies - you should use it to avoid shooting blindly. Sometimes you should use stronger ammunition type against maggots, one shot should be enough. Otherwise, expect that enemy will change his position after every shot. Maggots can be discovered by throwing Smokebomb bottle near them as well.
Last enemy types are the largest ones. Three enemies meet this criterion: fatty with a pot, a creature that spits with maggots and a mutant with "scissors". In case of the first one, you must watch out for fire bullets shot from his pot. They deal large amount of damage and additionally they set you on fire (you lose control of you character for a short while). When fighting such enemy, aim at the head, preferably with a shotgun or other strong weapon. Maggot spitting ones aren't mobile, but still they can be dangerous - creatures that they create deal lots of damage and they blur the screen, making it harder to fight. An orange bulb found in central part of their body is their weakspot. You should prioritize killing them, as screen blurring will make it harder to shoot at other enemies and dodge enemies trying to catch you.
Charging "rooster" with scissors deserves a separate record. You will meet this enemy in Barry campaign. Fighting him is very hard because of his durability and "armor". Opponent has one, pretty large weakspot, but to be able to shoot at it effectively, you must uncover it first. Simplest and most effective way to do it is destroying the cover created by limbs connected to the torso with a Firebomb Bottle. Only after that the orange spot becomes fully uncovered, which allows you to attack effectively. During battle, watch out if the enemy isn't too close to you (charge), as being captured by his scissors end with immediate death.
