How to heal team members in Mutant Year Zero? Mutant Year Zero Guide and Walkthrough
Last update: 05 December 2018
In Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden it is very easy to get your team members seriously injured or close to death. On this page, we inform you how to treat the heroes and how to save team members from death.
- Method 1 - Medkits
- Method 2 - Devouring corpses
- Method 3 - Automatic health regeneration after winning a battle
- Prevent heroes from bleeding out
Method 1 - Medkits
The best way to improve your health is to use a first-aid kit. First of all, you can find them in the game world. It is worth to thoroughly examine each map visited and check the bodies of the defeated mutants.
An alternative way to get first-aid kits is to buy them in the Iridia's store (Arc). By default, each med kit costs 55 pieces of scrap metal but can reduce the price in the store by 20% (up to 44 pieces of scrap metal) if you devote 1 collected artifact to the permanent improvement called the Deal Maker (visit the bar on the Arc).
In the game, you will never have a very large number of first-aid kits. Try to avoid unnecessary injuries to team members, so that they don't have to be healed frequently or play with weakened characters due to a shortage of first-aid kits.
Each first-aid kit renews only 4 health points by default. You can improve its healing effect by devoting 2 artifacts to the purchase of a permanent improvement called "Medic." It adds 3 healing points so that the healed hero can recover up to a maximum of 7 HP.
If possible, it is best to heal yourself only after the fight, because using the first-aid kit renews all health points at those times (instead of a maximum of 7HP). This is, of course, a risky method, because a badly wounded hero may not survive till the end of the battle. The decision to use the first aid kit should be based on the situation on the battlefield. If your wounded companion is surrounded by enemies, it's worth helping him right away. If there is no direct threat to his life it is better to wait until the battle is over and renew more HP thanks to a single first-aid kit.
Method 2 - Devouring corpses
This technique is reserved for only two heroes - Bormin and Farrow. You can unlock the Corpse Eater ability and devour corpses. They will be able to devour fallen mutants or other team members (that's a bit extreme, but it yields an achievement). For obvious reasons, devouring the corpses is not available for robots and mechs that have been eliminated.
The most important information related to the Corpse Eater ability is that you have to devour the corpses during the battle because it will not be possible after the battle is over. Try to choose those corpses that are not out in the open, because the hero may be shot by enemies on the way to the corpse, or shortly after renewing their health points.
The Corpse Eater mutation, like all other active ones, must be renewed before you can use it again.. To do that, you need to kill two enemies.
Method 3 - Automatic health regeneration after winning a battle
This method depends on the level of difficulty of the game:
- At normal difficulty levels, heroes automatically recover all lost health points after winning a battle. This is very convenient, as it allows you to use first-aid kits less often. Unless the hero is in a dire situation, it is better to simply try to persevere until the end of the battle, so that the game will complement the lost HP for free.
- On Hard, the heroes' health level is automatically renewed to half the energy bar after winning a battle. This is not so helpful, because, in subsequent battles, every stronger attack of the opponent can kill them immediately or lead them to the brink of death. If you have a supply of first-aid kits, it is worth curing them.
- At the Expert difficulty level there is no automatic treatment after combat at all. Any lost point of health can only be restored with the two methods described above (first aid kit or the Corpse Eater ability).
Prevent heroes from bleeding out
When a hero loses all his health points, there is no immediate death. Such a character starts bleeding out and you can save them if you manage to get to her with the first-aid kit. This is of course very risky, especially if a team member has fallen out in the open or if enemies with an active guard are deployed nearby.
The Tough Guy upgrade offers some help, it costs one artifact. It prolongs the bleeding time by 2 rounds and thus postpones the final death of a team member. It was worth to buy this one. You will have more time to clean up the area before you reach your dying companion with the intention of bringing them back to life.
