New game | Starting the game Football Manager 2016 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
You start new career at the moment of selecting the preferred game mode. You can choose from the standard Football Manager, which fully simulates all of the aspects of team management, the abridged, but faster Football Manager Touch and the mode where you create your own club: Football Manager Own Club.
After you have selected the game mode, it is time to select the leagues that you will be participating in. Note countries and own divisions - one country usually has several different divisions and you can specify from which one up, clubs are playable. The Preview option only simulates a specific league. You can pick countries and leagues the way you want, but note the relative fluency of the game - too wide a choice affects the speed of the simulation.
The classes that you pick also affect the number of players available in the game. You can additionally increase the number, or decrease it, by setting the size of the database (small, medium, big). This will lend you more maneuvering space on the transfer market, e.g. in searching the market of promising players in South America. Depending on the database, some of players will be unavailable and you will not be able to search them out. Finally, pick the beginning date and location of the game and pick the division, or the club that you want to manage. Then, create your manager and start the game.
Note: You can add and remove leagues (this happens only after the season has ended) during the game. From the drop-down FM menu select Add/remove leagues.
