Challenges | Challenges and young talents Football Manager 2016 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
When playing a challenge, you start the game in a given moment (for example half-way through the season) with a specific team. It can be either a team that is weakened because of injuries or one that promoted from lower leagues to top division. You will have a specific objective to fulfill. Before the game starts, you can select the difficulty level. The difficulty is also influenced by what team and league you choose. It is easier for a team that was previously in second league to stay in top division than for an outsider from fifth league.
The savior cometh
Objective: Stay in the division.
In this challenge, you start with a team from the bottom of the table. You are a few points short from safe spot and you have only a half of the season to go up. It is easier to complete this challenge by choosing a good team, for example the one that was a promotion candidate before the season. This way, you can use the strongest squad and your reserve will also be quite good. Don't mind transfers and use your player's potentials to the maximum to win when playing at home and at least lead to a draw when playing away or with top teams.
Injury crisis
Objective: Fulfill the board's requirements.
No matter what team you choose, you will find a lot of injured players in your squad. Some of them can't play till the end of the season. Moreover, you have injured players in your first squad. You have to modify your strategy and use the potential of the players you have left. You may also need to get some new players. The challenge will be easier to complete if you choose a team with a lot of reserve players (for example teams on top position in divisions). The objective that you have also depends on the team's reputation - it can be for example fighting for champion title of staying in the league.
The invincibles
Objective: Don't lose any of the matches
In this challenge, you have to finish the season without loosing any game. The morale of your team is high, so do not try and change your strategy. Just use the best squad you have available. Check your calendar to prepare for matches with top teams. Try not to play for 0:0 to avoided risking loosing in the last minutes of the game. It will be easier to complete this challenge by choosing a team that had a high place in the table before the season.
You can't win anything with kids
Objective: Win the trophy; juniors have to be among the first 11 players with the most appearances.
In this challenge, several talented juniors join your club. Your task is to win the trophy and make the juniors appear as often as possible (they are marked orange on the list). However, you shouldn't put them out on every game. Monitor their condition and let them rest from time to time. Often check their position on the list according to number of appearances. When needed, modify your strategy to let the juniors play. The challenge will be easier to complete if you choose a top class team that would be able to win the trophy without the talented juniors.
Unrest at home
Objective: Fulfill the board's requirements.
The objective that you have in this challenge may vary according to what team you choose. However, there is one thing common to every club in this challenge - the players are unsatisfied. To make their morale higher, you have to start winning games, which won't be easy. Be consistent with your strategy, talk to your players and give motivational speeches. You can also try to take unhappy players out of the first squad and let them play when you start getting better results.
Top division underdog
Objective: Stay in the division.
The team you choose is promoted to top division and your task is to stay in the league. To make that happen, try to get a few players with higher skills. Remember about your objective and don't try to wing every game, because it will be simply impossible. Instead of that, look for points in matches at home and when away, focus on counterattack (the opposite team will be more offensive against an outsider team like yours). Selecting the team is the key factor when it comes to difficulty level during this challenge. The easiest way is to choose a top team from second division in a given country. If you choose a team from lower division, the skills of your players will be much worse than in other teams.
Financial storm
Objective: Fulfill the board's requirements. Reduce the debt.
The team that you choose has serious financial troubles. Your task is to reduce the debt and at the same time fulfill the requirements of the board. It will be necessary to reduce wages and sell at least two or three players. In this case, it is better to let go of the stars in the team, as you will get the most money for them. This solution will leave you with a weaker squad, but you will at least have solid first squad players. Remember to negotiate the prices and aim to get a lot of money right after the transfer is finalized. Fill the lacks in your first squad with reserve players. Moreover, limit the range of your scouting network and fire the most expensive staff members.
