Typhon Nightmare | Side Quests Prey Guide
Last update: 22 May 2017
This section contains a walkthrough for two side quests that are connected to an unique alien called Typhon Nightmare. This considerable enemy can be encountered randomly in different parts of the station, always offering a choice of whether to skip the confrontation or face the opponent.
The Nightmare is Hunting You
Meetings with Typhon Nightmare are random, with the first one taking place once you've completed a certain portion of the game (in our case, the event took place once we've went back to Talos I Lobby after the first visit to the Arboretum). You'll always be warned of the incoming monster, who will begin the hunt after a few seconds of delay.
Regardless of your choice of approach, you should begin the encounter by scanning the creature at least once, which will enable you to learn the strong and weak points of your opponent and bring you closer to unlocking new powers. The scan itself has to be performed quickly, allowing for a window of opportunity to think out your next move.
Each meeting with Typhoon Nightmare leaves you with two options. You can choose to avoid the encounter and hide from the monster, as each encounter lasts around two minutes, which can be waited out by hiding in a safe location.
Avoid frantic running, as the Nightmare is faster, and will catch up to you without much trouble. Instead, find a ventilation shaft or a small room that will protect you from the monster, as his sheer size won't allow him to access your hideout. Moreover, avoid any open locations (e.g. a roof of a smaller building inside a larger structure) as the monster can still make use of his ranged attacks. Once you've found a hideout, don't move and wait for the counter to disappear, which means that the Nightmare has moved on and abandoned his search.
Wybór drugiego wariantu jest wskazany jesli zainwestowales w zakup psychicznych mocy obcych i zaklada on wyeliminowanie potwora poprzez przystapienie do pojedynku z nim.
The second option (fighting back) is viable if you've bought any alien powers, primarily the Kinetic Blast. If you are equipped with means to fight back, find a small room or a perimeter that will work as your perimeter, allowing you to hide or regenerate your powers.
Once the Nightmare appears in your sights, use the aforementioned Kinetic Blast to to deal maximum damage.
When Kinetic Blast is on cooldown, switch to firearms (especially shotgun or Q-beam) and continue firing at the monster. Focus on keeping the enemy at bay - a melee contact may end up with an instanteous death. Aside from the above, pay attention to the moments in which the beast attempts to fire a powerful energy attack - in such cases, hide or run to the nearest cover.
Mixing alien attacks and weaponry along with using cover to mitigate the beast's attacks should guarantee an easy victory. Nevertheless, the fight shouldn't be that hard even on harder difficulty levels, as it will simply take more time rather than being tougher in nature.
Important note - Even if you decide to defeat the Nightmare Typhon in a direct fight and you manage to defeat it you can still be haunted by this monster in random moments later in the game. The only thing that "encourages" you do fight the Nightmare is to get items that it leaves after its defeat.
Mixed Signals
This quest should appear in your journal once you've got past the second meeting with Typhoon Nightmare which took place in The Nightmare is Hunting You (described in the section of the same title). You'll be contacted by January, who will suggest using the satellite orbiting next to the station as a means of battling the opponent. An operational satellite will enable you to take care of the threat by sending a psychotronic signal which will recall the troublesome opponent once he appeared in the area (or summon him if you are ready to take him on in a battle).
Your first objective is to find the needed parts for the satellite's communication module. Travel to the Hardware Labs and make your way to the Machine Shop located in its western part. Clear the area from aliens and faulty operators and find the interactive control panel shown on screenshot one. Unfortunately, you need to acquire Repair III, as the panel requires a quick fix. Once you got through the obstacle, use the terminal to unlock a large spherical object which will emerge from the floor. Approach the object and grab the Satellite Psychotronic Transistor.
Use the nearby airlock to access the Talos I exterior. You need to fly up to the satellite shown on the screenshot and interact with it to install the newly acquired part.
Return to the station. From now on, you can send Psychotronic signals by using two files stored in your TranScribe. The signals are recorded in your Audio Logs tab (screenshot) and can be used as desired. The first signal recalls the monster in case you're unfit to take him on, while the second one can be used to attract the monster e.g. in order to perform a scan.
Note - The first use of the signals unlocks a trophy (You Rang?)
Note #2 - The psychotronic signal can be sent only four times. Consider leaving the charges for later on, and use them when they will be really useful (e.g. the Nightmare has appeared in a location which doesn't contain any viable cover).
