How to get more crafting materials? | Gameplay basics Prey Guide
Last update: 12 May 2017
In the previous page we presented the basic methods for acquiring materials that are necessary for crafting in the game Prey. Below you can find more advanced tips on how to get more materials for crafting. This is possible thanks to a unique gadget called Recycler Charge.
Recycler Charges can be found during your exploration of Talos I Lobby and later in the game they become more common. Just to remind you, a Recycler Charge "sucks in" all objects from its surroundings (also enemies and the player's character if you didn't keep enough distance from it), breaking down their molecular structure and automatically "converting" them into material cubes that can be immediately used in a fabricator.
Before each use of a Recycler Charge you can try to get the most out of it by bringing all interactive objects from your surrounding and gather them in one place. In this case it is important to not place elements on each other (e.g. don't place a microscope on a crate) because those types of objects can be "ignored" by a Recycler Charge when you use it.
As it was said before, Recycler Charges can also suck in monsters (but also humans or machines). Because of that function you can use them during your fights. The best way to use the charges is to throw them at Typhons, especially when you fight with groups of them (look for, e.g. rooms in which you can find a few Mimics or entrances to important locations that are guarded by a few Phantoms). The advantage of that solution is that Recycler Charge automatically "converts" Typhon's organs and allows you to get more units of the rare exotic materials. Getting organs that can be found near the remains of fallen monsters requires you to have Necropsy alien ability.
Warning - Using a Recycler Charge on a stronger type of Typhon doesn't guarantee that it will kill it immediately and convert it into materials. That creature will only lose a bit of health points. This means that when you fight with a stronger Typhon the first thing that you must do is to weaken it and use a Recycler Charge when its health points are almost depleted.
