System requirements Prey Guide

Last update: 08 May 2017

Prey has slightly lower system requirements than many other major productions released in the first several months of 2017. The developer recommends the older GeForce GTX 970 (or equivalent AMD hardware) graphics card for playing in high visual settings rather than a 10xx one. However, it should be stressed that one should be prepared for potential optimization issues. The previous project of Arkane Studios, Dishonored 2, did really bad in this respect.

This guide was written on the basis of the PlayStation 4 version. On the standard PS4, the game doesn’t suffer significant and frequent animation smoothness drops. These only happened in intense combat in large locations. However, the unpleasant lag that was present in Dishonored 2 is unfortunately also present in Prey. Although it doesn’t impede playing experience considerably, it can be burdensome to the players who want the protagonist to react very smoothly and quickly to their commands. What’s interesting, the lag is absent in the Xbox One version. Prey, similarly to most AAA titles released in 2017, features additional support for PlayStation 4 Pro users. They can enjoy smoother animation and sharper textures.

Minimum system requirements on PC

  • Processor: Intel i5-2400 or AMD FX-8320
  • Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 660 2 GB or AMD Radeon 7850 2 GB
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • HDD free space: 50 GB
  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10

Recommended system requirements on PC

  • Processor: Intel i7-2600K or AMD FX-8350
  • Graphics card: GeForce GTX 970 4 GB or AMD R9 290 4 GB
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • HDD free space: 50 GB
  • Operating system: 64-bit Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10

PlayStation 4 system requirements

  1. HDD free space: 42 GB
  2. The game offers better graphics on PlayStation 4 Pro.
  3. HDD free space: 38 GB
  4. Split Affinity – it forces you to beat the game twice. During the first playthrough, you have to unlock only alien powers and completely ignore human abilities (you cannot use any neuromod!). In your second playthrough, you have to do the opposite – unlock only human abilities and ignore alien powers entirely.
  5. No Needles – this trophy forces you to complete the game without using both human abilities and alien powers which means that you can only rely on weapons and gadgets. This one is best left for the third playthrough since survival is more challenging without abilities and powers. In this case, perfect knowledge of all in-game areas, best combat tactics, weapon locations, supply storages, and the like is recommended.
