This page of the Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game guide contains information on difficulty levels. You'll find out, among other things, how to select and change the difficulty level as well as what difficulty level modifiers are available and how they affect the course of the game.
Main difficulty levels and changing them during gameplay
The Guardians of the Galaxy game has 3 main difficulty levels - they are equivalent to low, medium and high levels. You will have the chance to select the difficulty level at the start of the game.
You can also change the difficulty level in the middle of your playthrough. Just select the Difficulty level option from the pause menu.
You won't get a trophy for finishing this game's campaign at a certain difficulty level, so don't worry about missing out if you change it, for example, when a boss battle turns out to be too hard for you.
Modifiers - your own difficulty level
An important feature of the Guardians of the Galaxy is that, in addition to selecting the main difficulty level, modifiers are also available. You can use them to edit the selected level of difficulty and create a challenge that is closest to your tastes. Here is a list of available modifiers along with our comments:
- Guardians Mode Slowdown - You can affect the game's slowdown effect (somewhat akin to bullet time) when you activate the ability selection menu. Increasing the slowdown effect will give you more time to choose which skill to use, making the situation less stressful.
- Damage Dealt - You can increase the damage you deal to your opponents.
- Guardians Cooldown Duration - You can determine the ability cooldown duration of your team members. Reducing the cooldown duration will allow you to activate them more often and, as a result, more effectively weaken enemies.
- Huddle Auto-Win - You can opt to remove the requirement to select the correct dialogue options to pump up the characters as you huddle before battle. As a reminder, if you fail the huddle, only the Star-Lord to receive the damage bonus (instead of the entire team).
- Cost of Elemental Shots - You can determine how high the energy cost of the 4 elemental attacks should be. Reducing the cost will allow you to use them more often and it will make it easier to fight against opponents with lower resistance to a particular element.
- Damage Received - You can adjust the strength of your opponents' attacks.
- Shield Regeneration - You can affect the speed of shield regeneration during battles.
- Death Event Timer - You can determine how long a downed team member will wait to be revived. Lowering the difficulty level for this option can make it easier for you to survive more difficult battles during later missions or boss battles, in which companions can easily lose their entire health bar.
- Vulnerability Timer - You can determine how long opponents should be affected by the negative effects of certain abilities. Choosing a higher value will weaken them for longer.
- Death Gate - You can set how easily a character can die and how long the Star-Lord can remain on the brink of death. By changing the parameter, you can save yourself from frequent deaths.
- Objects Outline - You can make interactive objects and devices in your environment display a white outline. This will make them easier to locate, and if this option is turned off, you would have to spend more time searching for them and rely more often on the color markings of the visor.
- Compass System - You can set the visibility of the compass pointing at the target of the mission, and even when it is turned on, it works only when the visor is activated.
- Hints System - You can alter the speed and frequency of receiving hints, for example when solving puzzles.
