General information | Equipment mods | Warframe Warframe Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 24 May 2018
This chapter will introduce the idea of modding your equipment. You will learn about types of mods, what Riven mods, polarity, Reactor and Orokin Catalyst, Arcana and Form are. Thanks to this chapter, you will not get lost in the multitude of mods.
Mods are a system that allows you to upgrade your Warframe, weapons, companions. This is a flexible system, since mods can be manipulated as much as you want - you can remove them. Thanks to this, you do not have to play with mods that you have once installed. As of now, there are 848 mods in the game, plus Riven mods. There are various ways, in which to obtain mods. There are various ways to obtain mods: from Orokin Derelict, by completing missions, from Void merchant, in Syndicates, for logging on, or from opponents and bosses.
1. Mod name
This is where you find the name of the mod. Thanks to their names, you can link specific mods to chat.
2. Capacity and polarity
The number represents what capacity you require to install the mod on the weapon /Warframe. Mod polarity does not matter, if you install it into a weapon with no polarity. However, if you install it in the weapon where there is concord between polarity of the weapon and the mod, the capacity cost is lower by a half. When there is no concord in polarity, the cost is always higher. This does not apply to Aura and Stance mods, as these ALWAYS yield positive capacity - in the case of polarity concord, they yield more, and in the case of different polarity - you gain less.
3. Mod level
Each mod has its own level - you can upgrade them to be better. each successive level increases mod effectiveness and capacity.
4. Compatibility
Not every mod matches every weapon and Warframe. Some of them require compatibility and can only be used for specific items, e.g. Primed Point Blank can only be used with shotguns.
5.6.7. Index
Here, you can learn the type of the mod. Item 5. is an Exilus mod (Warframe has special slots for this mod, right next to aura slot), item 6. is a stance mod (a weapon mod that allows combining), 7. is an aura mod.
8. Rarity
There is a specified rarity for each mod - this is represented by the color of the mod. In the game, there are 6 rarity levels: Bronze - common, Silver - uncommon, Gold - rare, Platinum - legendary and Crystal (pink) - Riven.
Bronze, silver and even gold mods are quite easy to obtain. The only exception are gold ones, which can be obtained in syndicates, or only in Sortie and Alert missions. There also are Prime mods, which are even more difficult to find - you can be rewarded with one in Daily Tribute, or you can buy one from a Void merchant - these mods are even more susceptible to upgrading than regular ones. Riven mods are ones with random statistics (up to 4 random statistics) - you can obtain them from The War Within and Sortie missions. Riven can be rerolled, if you do not like the statistics - you require Kuva currency for that (note that Kuva Fortress moves around various planets and affects them; search for missions with red drop - this is where you find Kuva).
Gold mods have been divided into Augment, Nightmare and Corrupted. Augment are mods offered by syndicates - they alter or upgrade a weapon's, or Warframe's functioning. Nightmare can only be found in Nightmare missions - they have double statistics. Corrupted can only be found in Orokin Derelict, using the right key - they only have one positive and one negative statistic.
You can perform Transmutation of mods for credits, to obtain a different mod. Also, you can sell them, or exchange for Endo (which seems to be a better option). To upgrade mods, you have to perform Fusion, in exchange for credits and Endo. The higher the upgrade level and the rarer the mod, the more expensive the Fusion. In the game, there are special items - Legendary Core, which can upgrade the mod to the maximum, without Endo and credits. You can be rewarded with them for completing 3 Sortie missions (but there are low chances of getting one).
