Mission 1 - Wasteland
Starting Point Your base has a good supply of mineral and Vespene gas. Expand your Marine forces to 12 soldiers and head North. Raynor can set up mines around the base to help secure it.
Zerg Blockade A group of Zerglings and their structure are blocking your way to the isolated Terran facility. Your Marines will easily deal with this threat.
Isolated Terran facility Once your units come close enough, the facility will be placed under your control. The site has additional resources and production buildings. This should be your new rally point when you're going to attack the Zerg.
A arge group of Zerglings The spot hosts a Creep Colony and a full squad of Zerglings. A big enough group of Marines should deal with them without any problems.
Zerg defense line You'll have to destroy all Zerg structures and eliminate all enemy units in this area. The enemy has gathered a significant number of units to make sure you have at least two full squads of soldiers.
Infested Command Center While in theory it's a Terran structure, it's been overrun by the Zerg and needs to be destroyed to complete the mission.
Groups of Zerg Small Zerg formations are scattered across the entire map. Some of them have buried themselves in the ground, and will attack if your men come close enough.
Mineral Deposits If the southern and northern bases run out of resources, you can either build a third base here or move one of the other two, e.g. the one from the starting point. These extra resources are protected by small Zerg forces.
Mission objectives:
Kill all aliens; Raynor must survive; You start the mission with a small base in the bottom left corner. Raynor has a plan to clear the area of all aliens. You don't have to destroy all units but you do have to get rid of every hostile building. The map is full of Zerglings and Hydralisks. The latter is another basic enemy type that can attack land and air units from a distance. The enemy won't attack your base but they will react if you move too close to them. At the top, there is a terran facility that will join you upon contact. In the top right corner, you will find most of the enemy buildings that you have to destroy.
Train several workers and Marines. You can take all soldiers right away and move to the purple terran base in the north . Don't be afraid to use Raynor - his attacks are powerful and he can be repaired like buildings. On your way, you'll encounter two enemy groups (before the ramp and on the hill). You will also see the first zerg building: Creep Colony. It spreads a special goo (Creep) - the zerg move faster and regenerate on it. Also, this is the only area where they can build buildings.
Reach the cut-off base in the north as soon as possible. There, you'll start training new units and gain a larger economic infrastructure.
There are a Barracks and Academy as well as a new type of infantry in the second base . Increase the number of workers and start mining minerals on a large scale. Remember that both the Command Center and Barracks can be turned into flying buildings. In this way, you can quickly move some structures. Move the Barracks from the first base to the second one and start producing a full team (12) of Marines. In the meantime, you can buy enhancements in the Academy. From now on, you can train the Firebat infantry . These footmen with flamethrowers deal quite a lot of damage on a small area but they attack at a very short range. Create a squad of Firebats. They require gas to be trained. You can find a gas deposit in the first base. First, you have to build a Refinery in such a place and then send a few SCV to extract gas. When you run of out crystals in both locations, there is another deposit guarded by the zerg to the east of the starting location. You can move your HQ there instead of building a new one.
When you've gathered the right amount of troops, launch an assault on the remaining zerg structures to the east of the purple base. You have to walk off the ramp and then go up the hill again where you will find three Creep Colonies and an infested terran headquarters. Having destroyed these buildings, the mission will end in success.
