On this page of the Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One guide you can find a walkthrough for The Missing Shopkeeper Mycroft's Case. The case becomes available after completing A Gilded Cage story and Eel Hunting side cases. An achievement can be obtained in the course of this case (Read It and Weep).
Introduction
The case becomes available once: A Gilded Cage story and Eel Hunting Mycroft's cases are completed..
Reward: 20 coins
Achievements obtainable during the course of the case: Read It and Weep.
Beginning
To start The Missing Shopkeeper case, visit the Cordona Chronicle building, located in the eastern part of Scaladio. Once you arrive at the building, talk to the receptionist. You do that when turning in the Eel Hunting Mycroft's Case.
Bookshop
After talking to the receptionist, proceed to the bookshop, located in the northern Old City. To make things easier, we've marked the building in the screenshot above.
The bookshop itself is inaccessible, but in order to push the case forward, you need to examine the padlock and the letter found at the doormat.
Clues
After examining the letter, you need to track it from the menu - there will be new clues on the ground (footprints) once you do that.
Activate Focus Mode to follow the footprints. .
. You can use it all along the way, as there is no time limit to using the mode.
The footprints will lead you to a yard that contains a small interactive area. There are following clues there to investigate:
- bookmark,
- wooden bat,
- cigarette butts,
- bootprints on the ground.
Witness
Once you investigated the area, you need to change your outfit. We recommend Worker's Apron so you blend in the crowd as much as possible. Thanks to the disguise, you'll be able to ask around and obtain more information.
Wagon tracks
Pin the next objective from your casebook and return to the main road. If you've marked the wrong objective (the correct one is shown in the screenshot above), the tracks won't appear. Nevertheless, you should easily see white circles that can be examined in the Focus Mode.
Follow the wagon until you reach the building with the blue door. This building will be the background to the remaining part of the case.
Combat
Here you'll be facing against 10 armed enemies. Remember that the game prefers arresting over killing. You'll see how you fared based on score and Jon's face. To learn more about friendship with Jon, visit Jon - does the relationship affect the ending? page of the guide.
Tables
There are three tables in the building that you need to examine. The first of them is in the middle of the room, on it there are cards and dominoes.
The next table is on the left. It's easily located thanks to the flame that illuminates this area. On this table, examine following clues:
- map,
- keys.
The next table is on the opposite side, on a eye-catching carpet. This one contains:
- ring,
- cut finger,
- knife.
Cell
You can now access the cell thanks to the key that you've found. This is mandatory step in this case.
Inside, there is a table with a very important letter on it.
Moreover, you'll encounter a body. Approach it and investigate following clues:
- battered face,
- cut finger,
- tattoo on the right arm.
After examining the corpse, look at the books that are right next to it. It's a whole pile that's hard to get around.
Crime and punishment
This is an optional step, but if you proceed with it, you'll unlock Read It and Weep achievement. Track the obtained evidence from your casebook and then go to the cell where the shopkeeper was being held. Look at the mattress to see bloodstains and a moving tile.
If you look closely, you can pick up the tile and then take the book out of the revealed hole. This way, you'll get the achievement, and by the way, you'll complete one of Jons' challenges. This will influence your relationship with him.
Ending
Once you have all the information, go back to the receptionist. You can tell the woman the truth (that her husband is gone) or tell her nothing. Your decision will affect her life. If you tell her the whole truth, she will start disliking Mycroft and won't want to work for him anymore.
