Entering the excavation site
The excavations are located in the northeast part of Old City. You've already been there to eavesdrop on two employees. We described this part on the page Gilded Cage - getting a job.
There's a man in front of the entrance. He won't cause any trouble. You just have to get past him and walk through the door. This will save the game, and you will be able to start the next part of the gameplay.
Arthur
As soon as you come down the stairs, you'll see a man. He's a friend and associate of the deceased. You can talk to him now.
You need to say "I'm ready to work!". The other dialogue options are not important.
After a short conversation, you'll have to take a closer look at the man. Pay attention to:
- the broken glasses,
- the dirty clothes,
- the lack of wedding ring,
- the notepad,
- the bruised eye.
You should assess the man as a "Knowledge seeker".
Searching the excavations
Time to take a look around. Start with the map, which shows the plan of the excavation. Examine:
- the photos on the left,
- the ruins in the middle,
- the note in the bottom right corner.
Then go to the box, which is located to the left of the map that you studied. Take a closer look at:
- the contents of the box,
- the note,
- the mannequin.
When you go down the stairs, you'll see more tents, full of vases this time. The book is between them.
This is the third book you can get during this mission.
The book is necessary to get the Everyone's a Critic trophy. More information about this trophy can be found on a separate page of our guide.
Ruins
After searching other locations, go to the ruins. They are on a hill, and additionally illuminated, making them easy to notice.
Upstairs, you need to examine the broken statue. Take a closer look at:
- the sickle,
- the statue's head,
- the pedestal.
Then go to the tombstone. Look at it so Sherlock can translate the text.
Eavesdropping
When you arrive, you'll see a man whom you can eavesdrop on. You have to do this to get to the next part of the story missions. If you want to know more about eavesdropping take a look at a separate page of the guide which describes this minigame.
The correct answers that you need to pick are:
- Lion helmet,
- Tilted pedestal,
- Closest to the beach,
- Kicked statue.
Reconstruction
Once you have all the information, head upstairs to the ruins. You now have to reconstruct the right sequence of events. Start with the statue on the left (counting from the tombstone) - it should stand with its back to the tombstone and hold a shield in its hand.
The middle statue should stand sideways, and hold a sickle in the right hand.
Another statue has a lion mask, and holds a brain in the right hand.
The statue closest to the tombstone is turned around, and holds a vine in its left hand. After confirming this configuration, you will see a short video.
Beach
Go to the beach when the reconstruction is complete. Jon will rest on the sand. Meanwhile, you will continue solving the mystery, or rather luring Arthur away from his desk.
Using the concentration mode, you will see a place where you can dig. When you run up to it, a cutscene will play, in which you will call for Arthur to come down, which will make him leave the office.
Desk
Take the opportunity to run up to the desk. In fact, you have all the time you need. You need to inspect:
- the box of darts,
- the book about elephants,
- the notes.
When you're done, Arthur will show up, and he won't be happy that you searched his office.
However, this is an ideal opportunity to talk to him about the already obtained evidence. Ask about:
- Arthur's box of darts,
- Leather notebook,
- Tusk and trunks,
- Bazookaeology Trilogy,
- Threats in envelope,
- traces near the shed,
- animal suspect,
- Photo of Imogen,
- "Ivory Baths" Construction plan.
