On this page of the Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One guide, you will find a walkthrough of the String Theory case. The task becomes available after completing A Gilded Cage story case. Completing this case you can get an achievement - His First Bow.
Key information
- How to unlock: Complete A Gilded Cage story case.
- Reward: 20 coins
- Achievement to unlock: His First Bow.
Beginning
You will start the task when you find a notice regarding the missing/stolen violin. This poster can be seen on the wall near the church in Scaladio, next to the narrow passage.
Teacher
After getting the information, you need to go to a man who puts up the posters. You'll find him a little way north. He lives in a tenement, which you can get to by turning into a small street.
The teacher you need to talk to is standing in front of the apartment door. After a short talk, you will reach the building where you can begin the investigation.
Teacher's apartment
As soon as you enter the room, you can examine the lock in the door. This is only possible in Concentration Mode.
If you go further, you will notice a covered piano. Examining it isn't required to complete the investigation, but it's worth taking a look.
The same goes for the diplomas that the man keeps on his bookshelf and desk. Examine them to learn more about the teacher.
A very important element, without which you will not be able to push the story forward, is to examine the showcase in which the violin was. Inspect the following:
- a broken bottle,
- a string for violin,
- a padlock,
- white fabric,
- bloodstains.
After examining all the things in the apartment, go back to the man and ask him everything you can.
Before leaving the apartment, you still need to conduct chemical analysis. The difficulty of the task depends on the chosen game's difficulty level. The correct solution is shown in the screenshot above.
Clues
If you are sure that you've checked everything, change the task in the casebook and use Concentration Mode. You'll immediately see the bloodstains on the floor.
Follow them - they will lead you back to the market. There you will meet another victim.
Fruit seller
The tracks end next to a boy selling fruit. His stand is broken and destroyed. However, he bravely continues to call customers.
Talk to the boy, and then use Concentration Mode to see the tracks on the floor. The blood is mixed with fluids that have fallen from the stand.
Change the task in the casebook again. This time, choose the task concerning a stolen donkey. That way, you'll be able to ask questions about it and see its trail.
Before you question the witnesses about the whole case, you need to change. Put on a worker outfit. You do not have to change anything on your head unless you run around the city in some "funny" hat.
After collection all the information, use the Concentration Mode. A donkey will appear in front of you, and you will need to follow it.
Bar
Walking to the east of the church, you will find a bar located in a small street. You'll find a donkey waiting politely outside.
With this information, you can immediately go back to the boy or inform him about it only when you go back to the teacher to finish the task.
When you pass the donkey, you'll see two men who can be eavesdropped on. The correct options are:
- Bunch of sailors,
- Wrecking the Tavern,
- patrons frightened.
A white door leads to the inside of the bar. Right next to stands Jon. As soon as you enter, enemies will attack you. There are 10 of them. Remember that the game prefers arresting over killing. You'll see how you fared based on score and Jon's face. To learn more about friendship with Jon, visit Jon - does the relationship affect the ending? page of the guide.
After eliminating all the enemies, pick up the violin lying on a small table. From now on, no one will stand in your way to solve this case.
Ending
Return with the violin to the teacher who awaits his lost property. He will be glad to have his violin back and will give you coins as a reward.
But that's not all you can do. It's time to change the task in the casebook again and look at the notes at the piano. Sherlock will remember that the man was teaching him to play in his childhood. After a short conversation with the teacher, you will receive the achievement, His first bow.
