Resident Evil 7: Yard and the Old House walktrough
Last update: 03 September 2020
The Yard is a small, completely safe area in front of the residence. It's also the first location in which you can buy some items. The Old House, on the other hand, is a tough location - inhabited by Marguerite, Jack's wife, and her insects. You're forced to visit it to look for the serum for Zoe, and in search for your girlfriend, who will be found there. You'll also acquire a new plot weapon - the burner.
Yard
You're completely safe once you've entered the yard. First, visit the safe zone (a white trailer) and answer a phone call from Zoe. The trailer is the first safe zone in which you can buy items for Antique Coins. You can choose from three items:
- Steroids (3 Coins) - increase max health [permanently],
- Stabilizer (6 Coins) - improves aiming [permanently],
- MAG .44 Pistol (9 Coins) - a pistol with a lot of stopping power.
To continue, proceed to the old house ruled by Marguerite. If you've found burner fuel earlier, you can make use of it here, so take it with you. Part of this area could be seen on the optional recording with Mia.
Old House - Find the Burner
Once you've entered the building, turn left - the right side is filled with mutated insects which you will destroy later using the burner. Proceed forward until you reach a crossroads leading left or right.
Turn left (take the Map found on a shelf before the door) and pass through the Gallery containing a projector. The Burner Grip is right next to the door leading out of the building, while a safe zone is located at the end of the terrace (you can save the game here). You'll find a Backpack (which will unlock a new trophy - In the Bag) that increases your inventory capacity by 4.
Return to the corridor, and proceed to the second room (Dining Room). Once again, leave the building and enter the swamps to find a small shed, containing the Burner Nozzle - another part of your weapon. Now, connect both parts. Your new weapon works great against flying insects and spiders.
Finding the Crank
Return to the building. You now have to access the Living Room - to do so, enter the Dining Room and pass through the newly opened door. To get rid of the flies, burn their nests (shaped like a sphere). Once you've entered the Living Room, crouch and go through a small hole in the wall - there is a Stone Statuette at the end.
The new item will allow you to unlock an additional secret passage, found in the Gallery (in a manner similar as in the case of the main residence). Complete the riddle and get through the newly opened passage. Once you've gone through, you'll notice that you've reached the second side of a large room missing some planks in the middle of the floor. Look around, and find a hole in the floor which should be to your right.
Reach the other end of a short tunnel to find a Crank. Now return and test how it works - place it in a protruding hole of a mechanism found by the floor to slide out a drawbridge.
Once again, you'll need to visit the Dining Room. You might encounter Marguerite along the way - depending on your approach, you can attack her (preferably by using the shotgun) or hide and sneak up to the next location.
Explore the swamps to find a second shed that is accessed through another drawbridge. To unlock the bridge, use the crank by placing it in the mechanism. The shed contains a chest with the Crow Key. You'll also unlock a door leading to the first floor (next to the area where you've found the crank). Remember that it also unlocks the door to Supplies Room, found behind the Main Hall.
Unfortunately, you'll be attacked by a woman once you attempt to go upstairs. Fire at her, and eliminate the insects using the burner. After the fight proceed to the floor. There is an altar behind the door. Investigate it to receive another phone call from Zoe.
