Resident Evil 7: Main House: Basement walktrough
Last update: 03 September 2020
The basement is the third and the most dangerous area of the residence, as you'll encounter numerous mutants along the way. You've decided to visit the basement to find the Scorpion Key, which can unlock some of the doors found in the house (including the room with the shotgun). The area will also be the background to your second encounter with Jack.

Incinerator Room and the key to the Dissection Room
Go forward until you reach a safe room with save game option, then proceed. You'll encounter only one monster along the way, albeit a strange one - shoot him in the head and enter the newly unlocked basement.
The basement is full of mutants, so if you are low on ammo, make sure to find or create some. Ultimately, you can use a knife, but this approach is very tedious. Your first objective will be to visit the Incinerator Room - an area in the middle of the basement, behind the white door. Inside, you'll be attacked by a mutant. Kill him with a knife to unlock a new trophy - Things Got Personal.
The first (locked) door contains a Key to the Dissection Room, which is located to the south (while looking at the map), behind the room with the machines. However, before you visit it, find the shotgun (check the section below). To unlock the locked furnace, interact with the first door from the right, and the third one from the left (the one with a handprint on them). Be wary - a mutant will appear once you've managed to unlock the door.
Optional: Seize the Shotgun
A shotgun can be found in the main hall - how to acquire it?
The shotgun can be found in the Main Hall, but once you remove it from the hands of the statue, an armored door descends and locks your way out, forcing you to leave it in this location.
Scorpion Key
To get it, you need to descend to the basement. Visit the room located west from the Incinerator Room to find a bulky Scorpion Key on the table. Once you've picked it up, return to the Recreation Room found on the first floor. Use the key to access the grandmother's room containing a Broken Shotgun. As you can easily guess, you need to take the damaged shotgun and exchange it for the working one in the Main Hall.
The Second Encounter with Jack and Third Dog Head
Enter the Dissection Room and then go to the Morgue. Then, move a large chest and enter the stairs. The final Dog's Head is found by one of the hanging body bags. Unfortunately, Jack will attack you once you're about to pick it up. Make preparations before the fight - focus on creating a medkit supply rather than ammunition.
To win, begin with using your most powerful weapons. Aim for the head; use the guard if you are unable to dodge the hit. If you are short on ammo, use the knife and push the hanging bodies at Jack.
When Jack lean in, try to push body bags at him
When you've dealt the necessary amount of damage (i.e. around 2 headshots from the shotgun/ 6 from the pistol), Jack's head will start to hang. Do so twice, and he will leave his current weapon (axe) and take a pincer from the shelf. Approach the same location and take the Chainsaw. The fight enters its easier stage, as you can counter his attacks (he can do so also, but less often) by attacking him with the saw. Press the aim button to have the chainsaw ready, rather than starting it each time Jack approaches you. Watch out, as the weapon may stall - use the reload button to turn it on.
As previously, continue engaging your opponent (you can use other weapons if you like). When Jack destroys the pillar in the middle of the arena, know that you are 2-3 knockdowns from defeating him. Once you've finally got him, approach the door with the chainsaw in hand and destroy the blockade (unfortunately, chainsaw will also be destroyed)
Return to the Main Hall, and place the Dog Head in the main door to unlock it. You can now enter the Yard (safe zone) as well as return to the previous areas at any time.
