Many players have grown used to attacking the enemy units with the RMB and clicking on an enemy unit. This is a good thing to do, especially in cases, in which you want to attack a specific weakened unit to finish it off, or one that you have the edge over. Also, you should know when to use the another form of attack, i.e. "attack-move" ("A" hotkey). Thanks to this, you can attack a group of enemy units within range of vision. After this command is issued, your units attack the enemy on sight.

Note: The accuracy of moving units is decreased. It is best to allow light units to approach the enemy, i.e. ones that require it most.

With "attack-move" and "move" commands, you will be presented with terrain formation. This also shows you the useful solid or broken line. This shows you that your shot along that line is either clear or obstructed. It is not a good idea to approach the units that you have advantage over, in terms of range of attack. Also, while standing higher than your opponent (you will also be able to see the differences in terrain elevation, in blue, in the "attack-move" mode), both your range and accuracy are increased.

The key factor, during the game, is to keep your units alive. You do not earn too much resources, which is why every vehicle is important. In the case of Coalition, try to keep a Support Cruiser (healing unit) somewhere close, or send the weakened units back to the base, where they can be repaired. While retreating the damaged units, always use Smoke Grenade, used by AAV vehicles. For the duration of the smoke grenade, you and your opponent will be unable to shoot at each other, but you will be able to extract your vehicles from the battlefield, instead.

Gaalsien has another way of dealing with that and all of their units heal spontaneously outside of the battle. They can also be healed over an area, thanks to Baserunner's regenerating ability.

The most valuable units are the ones that have already had battle experience. They are marked with a white line (and more in the case of higher ranks), which represents a full level. With increased rank, they receive higher max health and strength of attack, thanks to which they can alter the outcome of the battle.

During combat, try and move as little as possible. While moving, your accuracy drops drastically (this does not go for LAV units). Also, try to make sure that you position your units above the enemy's - this will ensure longer attack range and also adds a little bonus to damage dealt. For this reason, it is a good idea to employ "hit-and-run" strategy. Select a LAV and approach an enemy group. Fire at them once to attract their attention. As soon as they start following you, lure them into your well-deployed units.

It is possible to each one of the units to achieve experience levels - Useful game hints - The basics - Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Game Guide

It is possible to each one of the units to achieve experience levels. It is awarded for achievements in battle, i.e. the enemy vehicles that you destroy. The units receive decorations that are displayed above them in white. Vehicles of higher ranks are much more valuable, stronger and more resistant. For this reason, you should heal those units and keep them alive. Experience cap for all of the units is level five. Bonuses that they receive are different for each class and they boost their main characteristics: light units level up faster than the heavier ones.
