Mission 9 - The Whispering Gallery Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Guide

Last update: 24 June 2016

Artifacts to obtain:

  • Random (in wrecks [6]/[7]/[8]).

Primary objectives:

  • defend Sakala against the attack;
  • reach the Northern edge of the map and prepare an army;
  • stop the enemy by the canyon and destroy both carriers.
You can help Sakala by sending planes. - Mission 9 - The Whispering Gallery - Campaign mode walkthrough - Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Game Guide
You can help Sakala by sending planes.

In this mission, it is numbers over quality that matters. You have the entire Eastern hill, where you can be attacked by the enemy on all three sides. There are as many as two enemy carriers to destroy [1]. Sakala [2] can help you in combat, but only after you attack the enemy, preferably from the North, and distract them.

At the very beginning of the mission, start producing your units. You will spot health bar of the allied Sakala - you cannot let it be destroyed. For this reason, dispatch several RGs to the rescue and stand behind the allied forces. Also, you will make use of 2 Support Cruisers (to repair the Carrier and your armies).

Hint: Kapisi now has more points that let it defend itself, but be careful - the temperature is higher and you can overheat the system, by activating all of the sub-systems. This will damage the ship gradually (you will be notified of that).

While progressing along the Northern side towards the canyon, you can expect attacks from the South. - Mission 9 - The Whispering Gallery - Campaign mode walkthrough - Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Game Guide
While progressing along the Northern side towards the canyon, you can expect attacks from the South.

You can expect enemy attacks mainly from the East, across the middle hill approach [3]. Prepare your defenses there. In this mission, planes do not matter that much - the enemy has many AA units.

As soon as you gain some ground, you can research into Kapisi - Cruise Missile Silo. Thanks to this upgrade, Kapisi will fire a powerful projectile every several minutes. Do not launch it against Carriers, but against the enemy armies (Carriers are capable of performing quick repairs and you will lose your edge, as a result). Remember that each Cruise Missile is costly (nearly 500 Cu).

As soon as you have produced your armies (make sure that their numbers do not reach the maximum), take Kapisi and move north, to the Eastern rock, near the canyon [4] - Mission 9 - The Whispering Gallery - Campaign mode walkthrough - Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak Game Guide

As soon as you have produced your armies (make sure that their numbers do not reach the maximum), take Kapisi and move north, to the Eastern rock, near the canyon [4]. As soon as you get close, you will receive a notification of unlocking a new technology: Artillery Cruiser Fabrication. These are two powerful artillery units that deal high AoE damage over long distance. As soon as possible, build around 3 of them.

When your armies get near the canyon, the enemy will start its rotation and head North, along that route (to reach ultimately [5]). Use all of your units, including Kapisi, to defend that point. Keep Artillery Cruisers away, but within range (they are valuable and of key importance to this mission). Do not send planes yet, you can use them after the enemy focuses on your ground units.

Hint: The enemy also uses planes for this mission. For this reason, deploy around 2 Missile Batteries by the canyon walls.

Hint 2: You can use the Baserunner to deploy mines in the canyon. A tight cluster f enemy units is a perfect opportunity to perform Cruise Missile air-raids.
