Murdering Erich Soders | Hokkaido Hitman Guide

Erich Soders is the second person that has to be assassinated in "Situs Inversus". The assignment seems to be easy, as the target is immobile and defenseless - Soders lies on the operating table, waiting for a complicated procedure. The best methods of eliminating Soders are described below. You can choose one of the "official" Opportunities, or choose a different technique that involves skillful use of medical equipment.

Killing Erich Soders by sabotaging KAI surgical system (Ghost in the Machine Opportunity)

Note - This section describes the steps needed for completing the Opportunity called "Ghost in the Machine". However, you can access the surgical unit using a different outfit (e.g. as a surgeon).

The principles of the AI can be researched thanks to a KAI surgical system manual that can be found in the security room (M8,6) but this is a completely optional step.

If you've decided to proceed with the described Opportunity, your first task will be to get the hospital director's outfit. To get it easily, begin with getting a chef outfit and a rat poison. To do that, visit the level 0 kitchen (M8,4) (alternatively, you can begin the mission as a chef and/or equip a different poison as a part of your loadout). Now you can enter the restaurant (M8,22) - approach the meal (M8,17) which can be poisoned (if you are posing as a chef, you won't be bothered). Wait until the director appears and tastes the meal. He will rush to the toilet nearby (M8,16) where you can eliminate him without any witnesses. Take his outfit.

You can now travel to the hospital unit in the north. As you are wearing the director's outfit, nobody will bother or frisk you. Find any staircase that leads to the third level of this building. While you're up there, watch out for single guards, as they may recognize you. Try to use the fact that some of them patrol the corridors, and you can sneak behind their backs when they stand in one location for a while.

Your target is the KAI mainframe (M8,36) - access it through the western observation room, as the eastern one contains a guard that can recognize 47.

Once you're inside, start removing random mainframe computers. KAI should begin a system reset once you've removed the second computer. Now, look at the screen shown on the screenshot above, and remember the sequence of activation of the workstations (it's random during each playthrough). Use that knowledge and start removing the computers in that order. If you've failed, you'll be dealt a little damage, and will have to start again. If everything is ok, KAI will be sabotaged, and will stop functioning properly.

Sabotaging the mainframe is not the end of your assignment - you've only received the ability to control the surgical system. Erich Soders can easily be killed by leaving the mainframe and using the control panel found by the window (M8,35).

Instead of using the console on level 3, you can descend to level 2 and reach the respirator controls (M8,32). Disabling the life-support system will end in the death of your target.

Killing Soders by manipulating the main console of the surgical robot (Malpractice Opportunity)

This variant involves attaining the main surgeon's outfit, and manipulating the console of the surgical robot to which he has the sole access. Start with finding a pilot outfit - you need to search the helipad at the back of the surgical unit (M8,14). The location is best visited with a guard outfit, so you won't get detected while searching the area.

Once you've found the pilot, wait until he leaves the helipad, and catch him when he is on his way to the pill stash (M8,12). Unfortunately, this method makes hiding his body a bit difficult if you aren't planning to toss him across the wall. You can wait until the pilot reaches the pills, but you may have to eliminate the sleeping guard located in the vicinity.

Once you've got the pilot outfit, make sure that you've left all restricted items (firearms, knives, etc.) Return to the helipad, and approach the guards standing by the back entrance to the building (M8,15). Get frisked, and stay in the area until the main surgeon appears - he wears a headscarf.

Approach the main surgeon, who will start following you. Proceed to the pill stash (M8,12). You can either attack the surgeon along the way, or once you reach the stash (remember about the aforementioned sleeping guard who should have been eliminated beforehand). Eliminate the surgeon and hide his body (or toss it across the wall)

Once you got the disguise, return to the back entrance and quickly get past the guards, as one of them may see through the outfit.

Enter the console room (M8,34) and watch out for the other surgeon who may see through the disguise. Enter the neighboring room and approach the control console (M8,34). Start interacting with it. To murder Soders, you need to issue following orders:

• Activate the robotic arm (right option)
• Insert cardiac syringe (middle option)
• Extract blood (left option)

Destroying the heart with the help of the Curator (Tell-Tale Heart Opportunity)

Note - This section describes the Opportunity called "Tell-Tale Heart". However, the organ room can be accessed without the Curator (it's faster and not difficult at all), while an alternative solution is described at the end of the section.

Begin with accessing a small room that is next to the morgue. Take a look at research assistant's notes (M8,26). Read them to learn about a neurochip that is used by the Custodian working in the hospital.

The plan involves breaking into the chip. To be able to do that, find the remote which is located in one of the chambers in the bedroom on level 1 (M8,11). The area is not restricted, and you can enter it through the door or the window.

Once you've picked up the pilot, enter the morgue - The Curator is one of its employees. Approach him, find the pilot and use it to increase the dose. Amused Custodian will proceed to the organ room (M7,28) and ask the guards stationed there to leave.

If you are wearing a doctor or a morgue staff member outfit, you can enter the organ room right away, and dispose of the Curator. Otherwise, use the pilot again to decrease the dose. You can attack him once he leaves the organ room or use the opportunity and get through the door before its closes.

Once you've entered the organ room, approach the heart stored for Erich Soders and press the interaction button twice to destroy it - this equals the death of your target.

Alternatively: You don't have to use the Curator, as the organ room can be accessed through different means. Begin with acquiring a morgue staff outfit. You can do so by using throwables, or by sabotaging the fuse box in the side room. Additionally, make sure that you have a wrench. Enter the organ room as a member of the staff, go to the back, and use the wrench to lower the temperature in the room. It will force the guards to leave the room, allowing you to destroy the heart without being detected.

Killing Soders by overloading the defibrillator

This variant sees the player acquiring an "ordinary" or main surgeon's outfit, as you'll need to move freely around level 3 of the hospital. Moreover, before you begin the approach, find a screwdriver (you can find one on the footpath behind the hospital (M8,5) or in a small room next to the morgue (M8,8)).

Visit the defibrillator room located on level 3 of the main building (M8,37) and use the screwdriver to sabotage the safety module.

Now enter the second control room (M8,35) and interact with the console to abort the procedure.

Quickly return to the defibrillator console. Overcharge the defibrillator when it's being loaded by KAI (the screenshot above, look at the console to the left)

If you've completed all the steps and acted in the right moment, the overcharged defibrillator will kill Erich Soders. If the procedure went through, make sure if you've activated the second console the moment KAI activates the defibrillator (it has to be overcharged in that exact moment - not before, not after)

Killing Soders using lethal stem cells

This variant is possible if you have at least one deadly poison at hand. You can deliver Modern Lethal Poison to one of Agency pick-up points, or find Botulinum Toxin (M8,5)(M8,40) or fugu fish's poison (M8,10).

Choose a poison and proceed to the stem cell room next to the crematory and the morgue (M8,29). Interact with the device, and apply one of the poisons - you'll receive a lethal stem cell container.

You now have to reach the stem cell control room (M8,31). Avoid using the main operating room (M8,30) as you may be easily detected. Instead, find a convenient staircase next to the morgue that leads to this area (M8,30). Once you've entered the room wait until one of the employees leaves the area. If the room is clear, approach the stem cell device and place the poisoned container inside. As a result, Erich Soders will die almost instantly.

Convince the main surgeon to kill Soders (Not Malpractice)

This variant is somewhat complicated, but the end result is worth it, as you can eliminate your target, while the whole blame will land on the main surgeon.

Begin with acquiring Erich Soders' kill list. It's on a pendrive which location is shown on the screenshot above - it's in Yuki Yamazaki's apartment (M8,7), freely accessible if you are posing as one of her bodyguards. Approach the laptop and remove the pendrive.

The next step seems to be standard fare, but it's the most complicated of the whole operation - you'll need to find a surgeon's gown. The easiest way to attain one is to take over Jason Portman's identity (one of the opportunities, described on the page with the list of all available disguises found in Hokkaido). Here is why - Jason Portman is supposed to be escorted to the rehab section of the main building (M8,39), resulting in a nice opportunity to eliminate the surgeon when you are alone with him.

If you've missed the opportunity to catch Jason and take his outfit, enter the hospital in a different disguise and start using throwables to attract one of the surgeons (their gowns are different from normal doctors) in a secluded location.

Warning - Don't engage the main surgeon, and don't let him recognize 47, as he is the key to this opportunity!

Once you've started posing as a surgeon, enter the operating theatre's control room (M8,34) and proceed to the neighboring room containing a computer (M8,33). Don't get detected by other surgeons during this approach. Walk to the computer, and load the kill list. After a moment, the main surgeon should enter the room. He will look at the computer, and learn that Erich Soders killed his father.

The revelation won't be enough to impel the main surgeon to get revenge from Soders. Additionally, you need to let him pick-up another pill from the stash (M8,12) - this means having to repeat one of Opportunities described above. Once again, you'll need to access the helipad (M8,14), find the pilot, and use a suitable location (e.g. the pill stash, or somewhere along the way) to take over his identity.

Posing as the pilot, return to the back entrance of the hospital (M8,15) and get frisked by the guards. Stay here, and wait for the main surgeon (once he reads the file, he will also make a phone call while standing in the staircase).

Once the main surgeon appears outside of the hospital, meet up with him, and travel to the pill stash (M8,12). In this variant, the surgeon overdoses, taking more pills than necessary to perform the surgery.

It's on - you can either stay in this location and wait for the result, or switch to your surgeon's outfit and visit the operating theatre to see the show. The main surgeon will approach the control panel, and will use the operating robot to murder Erich Soders.

Simple Assassination

This method isn't especially intricate, but will lead to completing one of the challenges (A Personal Goodbye). Leave this approach for later - reaching 20 mission mastery level in Hokkaido will help you in completing the kill. When you're ready, begin the mission in the morgue (M8,28) and equip a silenced pistol (if your mastery level is lower than 20, send the pistol to the nearest Agency pick-up).

Note - Once the mission begins, DO NOT MOVE until the morgue staff had begun their routines.

You need to reach the operating theatre (M8,30) - to do so, use the stairs nearby (M8,30), that will lead you to the stem cell control room (M8,31). Wait until the surgeon returns to the main room, approach the entrance to the operating area, and fire at Erich Soders to kill him. Once the job is done, quickly proceed to the stairs, as the whole hospital will be alerted.

Killing Soders after revealing your identity

Another thick-skinned method, but is rewarded with an optional challenge (One Last Time, Mr. Soders). This time, the plan involves revealing your identity to Soders before you kill him.

Once again, begin in the morgue (M8,28). Wear your standard suit, and equip a silenced pistol. Begin the mission, wait for a suitable moment to reach the stairs (M8,30) and approach the stem cell room (M8,31). Wait until the room will be visited by a surgeon and kill that person using the pistol.

Enter the operating theatre (M8,30) and QUICKLY stand in the location shown on the screenshot above. You need to do so before you're recognized and before an alarm will be sounded off. Press the button shown by the game, and you'll see a short cut-scene in which 47 reveals himself to Erich Soders before he kills him. Once your job is done, return to the morgue, as the guards will be looking for you.
