On this guide page for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora we explain how to use the fast travel to move to known locations on the surface of Pandora. We've covered when the game enables fast travel, how to unlock Field Labs for fast travel, why fast travel may be unavailable or blocked, and whether fast travel is free.
Choosing a travel destination
- The fast travel mechanic is not available from the very beginning of the game, but you won't have to wait long for it. It will be unlocked during the Welcome to the Resistance main quest.
- Fast travel allows you to move to selected larger locations. It can't be just any place in the game world. After opening the map and moving the cursor over the location icon, information about available fast travel must appear in the lower left corner (example in the image). Then you have to hold down the fast travel key or button.
An alternative to fast travel may also be the use of mounts, e.g. the flying creature Ikran. However, you must advance in the game to gain access to mounts.
- Newly discovered larger locations may become fast travel points right away or may first require you to liberate them from RDA. Many smaller locations don't work as fast travel points - you have to choose bigger locations from a given area.
- The game may temporarily block the use of fast travel (example in the picture). Fast travel may be unavailable, for example, until a battle ends or you complete a mission objective.
Is fast travel free?
- By default, fast travel consumes 20% of the energy bar - information about the cost is displayed to the right of the fast travel button icon (example in the picture). As a reminder, another use for energy is the passive automatic regeneration of the health bar - this requires food.
- After your energy drops below 20%, fast travel will still be available. The game will not block your ability to use fast travel, but after moving to a new place, you will have 0% energy bar.
- You can remove the fast travel cost later in the game. This requires a special skill called Free Fast Travel. It is one of the Ancestor Skills - unlocking it is described in the chapter about the secrets and collectibles.
Field labs
- You can find Field Labs while exploring the game world. They can be used as fast travel points, but unfortunately they are initially inactive. Each lab requires you to restore the power supply.
- Take out the SID gadget and look for a box where you can use it.
- Follow the green wire and make more repairs along the way. The green connection must ultimately reach the fuse box (example in the picture). Repairing it will unlock power supplies for a given location.
In a field lab, apart from fast travel, you can:
- use a Crafting Table and a Cooking Station;
- use a Resting Spot and a Stash;
- find small loot and collectibles.
The Resistance Field Labs side quest is also connected to the first discovered field laboratory. There is always a communication terminal available, which allows you to connect to the HQ and, for example, obtain directions about the location of other interesting locations on the world map.
