In Watch Dogs Legion, the player can fight in many ways, including melee combat, close and long-range weapons, as well as gadgets. Each method of fighting has its pros and cons, however, a lot depends on your preferable playstyle. It is worth noting that opponents will adapt to the way you start a fight. This means that if you start using melee attacks, your opponents will do the same. If you start shooting, the enemy will open fire too.
Melee combat
Melee combat comes in handy when you don't want to alarm more opponents in a given location, but you've already been detected by someone. Hand-to-hand combat makes much less noise but it takes a little longer to finish an opponent than using firearms. If you want to focus on melee combat, it is worth investing in a character who has a perk that improves their hand-to-hand combat. A good example is the Bareknuckle fighters – you can find them, e.g. in the Bareknuckle boxing arena.
As for melee combat itself, the key to winning is dodges. Dodging at the right time is not very difficult, and it gives great bonuses. Memorize the attack animations – when you notice that the enemy is about to attack, make a dodge and counter. When you do a perfect dodge, time slows down for a while. The enemy will not react, meaning they will receive considerable damage. Don't attack blindly. If you keep doing this, the enemy will make a dodge and deal you a lot of damage. If the enemy is defending, perform a guard break – this will break their guard and give you time to perform an attack. A good way is to "mix" attacks if you want to be on the offensive. Attack your opponent twice, and then follow them with a guard break. Then perform 3 attacks and another guard break. With this strategy, you can easily defeat some opponents. However, this won't work on tougher ones. In these situations, focus on dodging and counterattacking.
Fighting using weapons
If you do not feel very confident in hand-to-hand combat, or this simply does not suit your playstyle, you can instead fight using different weapons. However, keep in mind that most of the weapons you will own aren't designed to kill, but to incapacitate. There are lethal weapons, however, it is better to use the incapacitating ones. By killing someone, you can affect relationships with other characters. As for firearms, the game has pistols, rifles, and shotguns.
When it comes to shooting, you should focus on targeting the weak points of the opponent, mainly the head if the opponent is a human. One accurate headshot is enough to kill an enemy. Remember, however, that each weapon has limited ammo, so do not waste it. Although there are crates with ammunition located in many places, you will not always have easy access to them. You should also get a weapon with a silencer, so you will not be so easily detected and make unnecessary noise.
