Walkthrough - Downtown District | Walkthrough Splinter Cell Conviction Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Important: You won't be allowed to use portable EMP devices from now on. Thankfully this doesn't apply to standard yet less effective EMP grenades.
Walkthrough: You start this mission next to a destroyed helicopter #1. Proceed forward, turn right and head up the stairs #2.
You will be allowed to choose between two passageways leading to the next room - the left one #1 and the central one #2. Choosing the right passageway won't be possible unless you want to be seen by enemy units (you wouldn't find anything interesting there anyway). Your next objective will be to leave the theater and sadly this means killing all mercenaries present in the area.
I would recommend choosing the left passageway. Quickly go past the lamp so that you won't be seen and approach the nearest desk #1. Remain here until one of the guards stops close to your position #2.
Quickly slide over the desk #1 and neutralize the guard in hand to hand combat. Doing this will "charge" your Mark and Execute action. You may now return to the previous area. Approach the central passageway #2.
Make sure you're taking cover next to the passageway and use Mark and Execute system to eliminate four nearest guards, including the one standing very close to Fisher #1. Once they're gone throw a mine into that room #2 and detonate it when more enemy units show up.
I would recommend retreating after the initial attacks #1, because more enemy units may show up here. Try surprising the mercs if you can #2, especially since you'll be allowed to track their movements using the sonar goggles.
The last two mercenaries are stationed in the corridor leading to a nearby street. They may arrive here during the battle #1 or they may remain where they were originally stationed #2. If they didn't show up try going to them and throwing a grenade at them from a safe cover.
You may now start moving towards the main exit from the museum #1. It shouldn't take long until you're outside. Head forward without any delays #2, because you won't encounter any other hostiles in this area.
You'll soon reach a street with a lot of civilians and you won't be allowed to use weapons and gadgets here #1. Don't worry, because it's safe. You can try listening to some of the conversations, however this is optional. Ignore several larger explosions. Proceed towards a side alley when you're done exploring #2.
You'll have to be careful here, because new mercenaries are stationed just around the corner. Attacking them would be possible and you would have to start with a guy standing next to a civilian #1. You would then have to use grenades and other gadgets to deal with the rest #2.
I would recommend passing through this area without killing anyone, especially since it won't be that difficult. Wait until one of the civilian starts talking to a Black Arrow mercenary. Walk behind him so that you're not seen by the mercs #1. Approach a pipe located on the wall of the right building and start climbing up #2.
Grab onto the ledge and start moving left #1. Ignore all the guards seen below you, including those who will arrive in a humvee #2.
Keep heading left and eventually you should reach a new pipe. Slide down #1, turn around and grab a new pipe #2. This time you'll want to get to an upper ledge.
Start moving left again and then climb up to find yourself standing on a small platform #1. You should now drop down to a small dark area located directly under your current position #2. This can be done right now or after you've made your way to one of two available pipes.
Carefully move towards a parked humvee #1. One of the mercenaries will probably be standing here, however you won't have to kill him. Avoid him and proceed to your right, choosing a passageway between the building and the humvee #2.
You should now move towards a large trailer and then choose a passageway located to your left #1. Doing this will allow you to get out of this area. It won't take long for you to reach a new section of the map and you should start off by interacting with an equipment crate found to the left #2.
Make sure to take a silenced assault rifle with you, because you're soon going to have to attack enemy units. Head forward #1, ignoring civilians encountered along the way. It shouldn't take long for you to get closer to a barricade with a lot of Black Arrow mercenaries #2.
You must now decide how you want to engage enemy units:
OPTION A - attacking the barricade from the left
OPTION B - attacking the barricade from the right
Option A: Choosing this option will allow you to deal with enemy units much faster, however achieving success is going to be a little risky. Proceed forward and try to stay close to the buildings located to your left. Stop near a green SUV #1, look up and make a jump to grab the ledge #2.
Start using the ledge to move to your right #1. Keep heading in that direction until you'll be forced to let go #2. Make sure that you're still standing in the shadows and that no one is heading in your direction.
Turn around and grab a new ledge #1. Notice that you'll have an excellent view at the barricade from here. I would recommend that you start off by neutralizing the leader of the mercenaries - he will be using a speaker #2.
Wait until most of the civilians have escaped from this area and start attacking other mercenaries. Don't forget to use standard frag grenades #1 and mines to your advantage and that you target larger groups #2. If you're spotted you'll have to change your position quickly and you'll also be allowed to drop down on your opponents if any of them decide to show up here.
I would strongly recommend that you return to the equipment crate #1 after dealing with all the mercenaries. You may now proceed towards the area behind the barricade #2. Keep going straight and you'll trigger a cut-scene. Fisher will be transported closer to the White House.
Option B: Choosing this option will allow you to get to a better shooting spot, however you will have to avoid several mercenaries along the way. Start off by moving forward and try to stay close to the buildings located to your right. Once you're close enough to the crossroads you'll be allowed to choose between using a ladder #1 and remaining on the ground level #2.
In both cases you'll have to get rid of a nearby guard #1. Make sure to wait until there's no else around so that his death won't attract unwanted attention. You may now proceed to your right #2. Try to remain in the shadows here.
You'll have to go past this entire area from the right side and then you'll start moving towards the barricade again #1. I would strongly recommend quickly running between various objects used for cover so there's a smaller risk of detection. Finish off by going to a dark area located to your right #2.
Make your way to the upper platform and choose an assault rifle from your inventory. You may now attack enemy units, starting with a soldier holding a speaker #1. Wait until the civilian population leaves this area and start throwing grenades at larger groups of enemy units #2. Change your position if you're noticed. You can also land on your opponents if any of them show up here.
I would strongly recommend that you return to the equipment crate #1 after dealing with all the mercenaries. You may now proceed towards the area behind the barricade #2. Keep going straight and you'll trigger a cut-scene. Fisher will be transported closer to the White House.
Walkthrough (continued): Take your time to familiarize yourself with your new objective. Your task will be to gain access to the White House grounds and this can be achieved by blowing up a tanker. You could do this from here #1 (two hits will do the job), however I would recommend moving closer to the gate undetected. Start off by heading to your right #2.
Notice that this passageway is monitored by a huge searchlight #1. This means you'll have to use cover wisely and quickly move between nearby objects #2. Naturally each time you plan on moving forward you'll have to wait for the searchlight to turn.
This area is being patrolled by a single enemy soldier and you can surprise him near the humvee #1 or you can wait for him to show up and deal with him near the small path #2. Eliminating this opponent is important, because it will allow you to trigger a Mark and Execute action in the near future.
Start heading towards the main gate from the right flank #1 and try to use darker areas, so you won't be spotted by anyone along the way. Move closer to the right wall #2 and you'll have a chance to avoid all enemies standing in front of the main gate.
I would recommend that you take cover behind the map of the White House which is located next to one of the humvees #1. Lean out only for a moment and throw a remote mine at the tanker seen in the distance #2.
Take cover behind the map again and then detonate the charge #1. The explosion should kill all soldiers standing in front of the gate expect for the one closest to Fisher. Wait until new enemies arrive here and use Mark and Execute action to get rid of them safely #2. You can also use grenades and remote mines to your advantage here.
Wait until it's safe to leave cover and find a small gate to your right #1. Enter the White House grounds and immediately proceed to your right #2 so that you'll end up behind a small guard post building.
Depending on how enemy units reacted to your previous actions there may be a few of them left and you can try killing them one by one while remaining on the ground floor #1 or you can climb on top of the white building #2. Notice that you'll have a chance to drop down on enemy units through a glass roof.
The last group of opponents should take cover near the main road leading towards the White House #1. You can try using grenades to kill them or encourage them to follow Fisher and then eliminate them from a good cover. Make sure they're all gone and proceed to the next area #2 where you'll activate a new checkpoint.
Be prepared to deal with three groups of enemy units on your way to the White House. You should know that you'll only be allowed to avoid the last group. I wouldn't recommend choosing the left passageway #1, because you would still risk being spotted by the members of the first group and you wouldn't be allowed to leave this area without killing them first. Head forward and take cover behind the hedge #2.
Make sure that you're crouching behind cover, because a large group will soon appear in your area. You could try planting a mine prior to their arrival #1 and then detonating it when they're standing next to it #2.
One or more enemies will probably survive the explosion and you can use either grenades or your assault rifle to deal with them #1. It would be a good idea to leave one enemy alive so that you'll have a chance to surprise him and to eliminate him in melee combat #2. Doing this will give you a chance to trigger a Mark and Execute action in a few moments.
You may head towards a small passageway leading to the next area #1. QUICKLY proceed to your right when you get there. Take cover behind a small guard post and then move towards a nearby hedge #2.
Wait here for new enemies to show up. Notice that you'll have a chance to use Mark and Execute system to get rid of up to four of them safely #1. Deal with some of the remaining enemy units using grenades #2, preventing them from throwing explosives at Fisher.
Keep moving towards the White House building seen in the distance #1. Ignore here what Grim is saying and head towards the stairs leading to the main entrance #2. Press a crouch key once you're there.
Approach the barricaded door and then turn right. Make a stop close to the balustrade #1 and wait for the last group of enemies to show up. All the mercenaries should proceed towards the main square in front of the White House and this is your chance to jump over the railing #2.
Head forward and make sure to stay close to the left wall. One of the guards may stay behind and you can either wait for him to leave as well or defeat him in hand to hand combat #1. Get to the nearest corner #2 and make sure that the mercenaries aren't heading your way before leaving cover.
Turn left and then immediately right #1. You may start running here, ignoring new voices heard along the way. This mission will end as soon as you try entering the White House #2.
