Additional options of the difficulty level screen.

In the Sniper Elite III: Afrika, there are four basic difficulty levels available to the player:

  • Cadet - this level offers negligible challenge. The enemies are brainless, the main character extremely durable, and there are no principles of ballistics present in the game (it means that you don't have to make anything into account while taking your long shots).
  • Marksman - this difficulty level is slightly more challenging than the Cadet. The enemies are smarter and they react better and faster to the actions of the player. There are limited principles of ballistics present in the game.
  • Sniper Elite - this difficulty level is recommended for those who are playing through the game for the first time. It offers a greater challenge from the previously mentioned levels, mainly because of the enemies (who are more sensitive to the actions of the player) and the realistic principles of ballistics. It's worth noting, that this difficulty level allows you to turn on friendly fire, allowing you to hurt your allies while playing in co-op.
  • Authentic - this level is recommended to those players, who completed the game at least on the lower settings. It's mainly due to the fact (besides the obvious, like better enemies, less durable character, limited user interface, etc.) that the player can't save his progress anymore. It can make the game frustratingly difficult, because all the missions starting from the second one are long, and they have a number of moments, when it's easy to make a mistake and ruin your mission.

A thing worth noting - a selected difficulty level is not permanently active to the very ending of the game. You can change the difficulty level during your preparation for the next mission. You should remember, however, that changing the difficulty level to a lower one can block you the possibility to achieve some of the achievements / trophies.

If you don't like the factory settings of the difficulty levels, you can prepare your own one - the Custom option serves this purpose. The three modifiers:

  • Enemy Skill - it influences on how big of a threat the enemies are.
  • Ballistic Realism - it influences the realism of principles of ballistics in the game, affecting your ability to shoot.
  • Tactical Assistance - it influences the number of auxiliary elements of user interface (mini-map, etc.) displayed on the screen.
