Exploration of the old city | Mission 5 - Siwa Oasis Sniper Elite III Guide

Note - a careful exploration of the old city is not required for completion of this mission. It is not a good idea, though, to skip this step, because there are lots of collectible to be found all around the city, as well as there are secondary objectives to complete. Clearing the city of the enemy soldiers (or at least its central and Northern parts) will discernibly help you complete the secondary objectives, towards the end of the mission.
The best way to explore the city is by moving around its edges, in the counterclockwise direction. I recommend that you leave the central part of the city for the end but, you still can search for opportunities to eliminate the patrolling enemy soldiers at a distance. If you have followed my suggestion and taken the path over the hill to the east, you need to watch out, because you will be surrounded by several enemies, right at the very beginning. Try to eliminate them from afar and, necessarily, eliminate the one armed with a Panzerschreck (he is standing on one of the lower rooftops).
During the exploration of the city, you need to keep in mind that there are two enemy snipers here (points 7 on the map). It would be a good idea to eliminate them at the first opportune moment, to prevent being spotted by them, later on. The first sniper is standing on the rooftop of the building in the Northern part of the city (screenshot 1), close to one of the sniper nests. The other one is hiding in the city ruins, inside one of the lower buildings, in the Western part of the city (screenshot 2) - you can eliminate him at a distance, or later into the mission, get him from behind.
Go North and remain in the Eastern part of the city, for the whole time. Keep your eyes peeled for a narrow passage to the second AA station (point 8 on the map). Before you approach the station, eliminate the enemy with the machine gun, occupying the nearby vantage point, as well as the guard patrolling the area to the North of here. Only after you have eliminate both, throw a grenade to the AA team (note - reinforcements may arrive).
Do not walk away from here immediately, and explore the Northern tower. Next to the ladder, you should find the first War Diary - Missives from Home; (the green point 1 on the map). I recommend that you go a bit Westwards now and try to reach the second sniper nest (the blue point 2 on the map). Climb up the ladder, unlock the nest and use it immediately, to eliminate some of the enemies guarding the Northern and the central part of the city (the ruins).
After you have eliminated all of the enemies that you could see, return down the ladder and go Northwards. Take a look around one of the buildings here and you will notice a War Diary - Axis Account: Desert Ghost here. Turn North-Westwards now and reach the building, whose rooftop used to be occupied by one of the snipers (point 9 on the map). Enter the building, wait for your character's commentary (he will confirm that you have found the supplies) and collect another War Diary - Letters to Martin.
You may have noted that the last sniper nest (the blue point 3 on the map) is around. Take the ladders and reach the very top of the tower, unlock the nest and start aiming, because this is where you score the second Long Shot. The person that you need to kill has been shown in the above screenshot. It is a soldier several hundred meters away, standing on a dune, outside of the city.
Descend from the tower and go West. Carefully, enter the North-Western part of the city - there are, at least, three enemies here and their fields of vision often overlap. I recommend that you rely on the sniper rifle here and not bother if a guard is alarmed, after he sees a corpse. Around, there also is the last AA station (point 10 on the map). Locate the ladder to the balcony Eastwards of the cannon. Stand at the balustrade and throw a grenade over it. The explosion should destroy the cannon and kill the team.
Continue your exploration of the city. walk away from the destroyed cannon and go North-Westwards. Watch out for the enemies here, who may be patrolling the walls, as well as for the ones in the central part of the city. Around, there are two more War Diaries - Survival Notes: Desert Sniping I and Vahlen's Journal: Home Away from Home; (green point 6 and 7 on the map). Around the ruins in the center, there also is a building with the other depot inside (point 11 on the map).
Complete your journey towards the North-Western part of the city. Just like earlier, try to keep appropriate precautions, because there are exceptionally many opponents here. After you have cleared the area, try first of all to locate the last depot (point 12 on the map). Apart from completing the secondary objective of the mission, connected with the depots, you can also collect another War Diary - Survival Notes: Healing. Another War Diary - Axis War Story: Assassination Attempt is in the room next to the outer walls (the green point 8 on the map).
For the very end, leave the vast ruins in the central part of the old city. This area is being patrolled by, around, 6-8- enemies and it would be a good thing to eliminate all of them, because this will make the final part of this mission, discernibly easier. Search for the opportunities to use the sniper rifle, drowned out by the generators or the planes flying by. Wherever possible, use the advantage of height, to surprise the enemy.
