Rules for using temporary weapons found in Sniper Elite 5 are not explained well enough in the game. From the guide, you will learn how long you can use the weapons you find and whether you can keep them by leaving the mission area with them.
Rules for using found weapons
For each mission, you can take 3 weapons with you (rifle, SMG, and pistol) among those already permanently unlocked for the character. This doesn't mean that you have to use only them during the mission. It is allowed to pick up so-called found weapons. These can be weapons dropped by enemies and found as loot in the game world - in the latter case, the best chance to obtain them is to visit the armory and more guarded locations with enemies. Also, check the locked chests that require using of crowbars, picklocks, or bolt cutters.
You should treat the found weapons only as a temporary and short-term aid. You won't be able to use them for longer periods. There are two main reasons for this:
- They cannot be permanently added to your inventory or taken with you at the end of the mission. Switching to a different weapon makes the character drop the temporary one. You can pick it up again, but the game won't let you leave the mission area with it.
- They cannot be reloaded. Emptying the entire magazine/clip will render the found weapon useless.
The best temporary weapons
Not all the weapons you find are handy, but some may make it easier for you to complete mission objectives or eliminate enemy forces. Primarily, look for:
- Rifles with good silencers - They are significant at the beginning of the game because you won't have the best silencers unlocked yet. The acquired weapon may turn out to be much quieter than the currently used one (compare their Audible Range).
- Panzerfausts - They are unavailable to be taken on a mission, and are very useful for destroying all types of machines. For armored vehicles and tanks, target their tracks with the Panzerfaust (to stop them) or the exhausts (to damage them severely).
- PzB Anti Tank - This is helpful until you unlock special Armor Piercing Round for your rifles. Target the exhausts and weak points in the rear parts of tanks and armored vehicles with the rifle you have found.
