This page contains walkthroughs for minor side quests available in Red Dead Redemption 2 - they are marked with a question mark. You can also get them by talking with Strangers, their quest givers. These missions are worth doing because they can be related to important features of the game (i.e. Cigarette cards).
- A Test of Faith
- Smoking and Other Hobbies
- Treasure Hunter
- Arcadia for Amateurs
- Geology for Beginners
- A Fisher of Fish
- Hunting - Charles
- Fundraiser
- No Good Deed
- The Widow of Willard's Rest
- Of Men and Angels
A Test of Faith
You can start this mission south-east from the gang hideout in Horseshoe Overlook - an excavating site.
Speak with Deborah McGuiness, a paleontologist. She gives you a mission during which you can look for Dinosaur Bones. There are 30 of them. Visit a post office to send Deborah an information about a discovered bone (post offices are next to a trains station). More information about the bones' locations can be found in "Collectibles and secrets" chapter in our guide for RDR 2.
Smoking and Other Hobbies
This mission can be started in Flatneck station, south from the gang hideout in Horseshoe Overlook (the same location where you can find Reverend Swanson during one of the main missions).
Meet with Phineas T. Ramsbottom. The man is interested in collecting Cigarette cards. You can sell him cards whenever you collect a full set. You can send him your collection by visiting a post office. More information about the Cigarette cards can be found in "Collectibles and secrets" chapter in our guide for RDR 2.
Note - Don't sell single cards to traders!
Treasure Hunter
You can start this mission near the cliff located south-west from the gang hideout in Horseshoe Overlook.
Find Maximo Cristobal Valdespino and speak with him. He can sell you a treasure map for $10 (Jackie Hall Gang Map 1). After that you can start treasure hunting. More information about the treasure maps can be found in "Collectibles and secrets" chapter in our guide for RDR 2.
Arcadia for Amateurs
This mission can be started in the forest located south-east from Strawberry town and south-west from Riggs Station.
Speak with Mason who is busy with taking pictures of animals. Soon, his bag will be stolen by a coyote. Chase the animal and remember to use the Eagle Eye when you have problems with tracking the animal. You don't have to kill the animal - it will drop the bag after some time. Pick it up and bring to the owner.
Geology for Beginners
This mission begins west of the town of Strawberry.
Reach the hut in the forest and talk to Francis Sinclair. He wants the main character to find sculptures carved in stone (Rock Carvings) for him. There are 10 of them to find. You can send information to Francis by post about the sculptures that you have already found. Sculptures are one of the secrets in RDR2 and you can find information about their location in a separate chapter of the guide.
After sending the information to the hero, you have to wait two days. You can take care of other missions during this time, or just sleep out the time. After two days you will receive an answer from Francis. Get the invitation from him and read it. The invitation is in your bag. Then wait a few hours again and return to his hut. There you will find out interesting things about the character and his family.
A Fisher of Fish
The quest marker for this mission is located near the water body north from where the gang hideout is in the chapter 3.
Speak with Jeremy Gill. You can bring him legendary fish. You receive Jeremy's Business Card and Legendary Fish Map. You can catch fish in any order and then send them to Jeremy (go to any train station). More information can be found in chapters dedicated to fishing and secrets.
Hunting - Charles
A marker may appear at the gang's headquarters informing you of the possibility of going hunting with Charles. Talk to him and you'll find out that he wants to hunt a bison.
After reaching the place where the buffaloes are staying, use any weapon (e.g. rifle) to kill one of them. It's worth helping yourself with your Dead Eye to score a few hits and be sure that the buffalo will be killed. Get off the horse and skin the bison.
The heroes will soon find a dead buffalo and the new task will be to find people who kill buffaloes for fun. Follow Charles as you find more dead animals along the way. Explore the abandoned camp along the way. The destination is a small poachers' camp. Charles will shoot one of them. The second one has to brutally interviewed. Then, you can choke him to death or release him.
Search the camp after all. The most valuable finding is the Poison Throwing Knife Pamphlet. From now on you can craft them.
Fundraiser
During your stay in Saint Denis you may come across a woman marked with a question mark.
Chat with the woman and you'll find out that she's running a fund to expand the Memorial Hall. You can contribute to the renovation and donate $20. Woman promises that the name of the hero will be on the list of people who have supported this project.
No Good Deed
Start this mission by meeting with Alphonse Renaud in Rhodes. The traveling doctor tells you that someone has stolen his medical wagon.
Reach the place where the wagon thieves are - Macob's End. Eliminate them all. Find the medical wagon presented in the picture above. Take it back to Rhodes. Arthur receives Special Health Cure Pamphlet.
The Widow of Willard's Rest
Arthur can meet the widow called Charlotte a few times and help her deal with her husband's death. These encounters aren't treated as a mission although they are still marked with a question mark. You can meet the widow in chapter 5 or 6. However, Arthur must visit the doctor in Saint Denis first to be able to meet the widow.
Picture 1 shows the place where you can meet the widow - Willard's Rest is in the north-east corner of the map. Wait for the question mark icon to appear in that place.
- The first meeting happens near the grave. You have to show the widow how to hunt - kill a rabbit. You will also have to kill two wolves (when you are going back into the woman's house).
- The second meeting is in the main building of the farmstead. You can practice shooting bottles. Then, go back into the house to taste the soup. After that, Arthur will lose consciousness. When he wakes up, read the widow's letter. The woman also left a bit of money for Arthur - check the jewelry box. It is on the nightstand next to the bed.
- The last, third meeting also takes place on the farm. Charlotte will thank you for your help and kiss Arthur on the cheek. You can use the opportunity to search the farm without fear of being accused of theft. In the main building, you can find as many as three collector's cards.
Additional note: Helping the widow is one of the ways to increase your honor and to reach the maximum reputation level.
Of Men and Angels
This mission appears in Saint Denis (chapters 5-6). You also have to complete Brothers and Sisters, One and All before you start this mini-mission. Meet with Sister Calderon in Saint Denis. You learn that Arthur can help in charity. You can do that in two ways:
- Donate 4 units of food.
- Donate $10.
Additional note: Charity is one of the ways to increase your honor and to reach the maximum level.
