Obtaining the fishing pole in RDR2 opens up a world of possibilities - you can now fish for common and legendary fish. The rod is obtained in the course of A Fisher of Man story quest. On this page, we offer a walkthrough for the task and show you how to fish.

Fishing rod is obviously a must-have item if you plan on catching fish in Red Dead Redemption 2. The fish can then be eaten or put up for sale. The option of fishing is initially unavailable (not counting the option to kill fish with weapons). On this page we inform you how to get a fishing rod in RDR2.

Luckily, getting a hold of the fishing rod is easy and does not require any special actions. You simply have to wait until the game unlocks the main task from the fishing trip during the main mission A Fisher of Men from the second chapter of the campaign, commissioned by Abigail Roberts at the Dutch's gang camp at Horseshoe Overlook.

Abigail will ask the main character to teach her son Jack how to fish. You will receive the rod as soon as you start the mission.

As part of this quest, you can already catch your first few fish. From the moment you complete the main mission, you can fish freely and without any restrictions. It is enough to reach any river or water reservoir. Fishing in the game is, of course, more extensive than what the mission has shown - you can, for example, use different lures and catch different species of fish.
