Shadow of War: Fortress Defense Middle-earth: Shadow of War Guide
Last update: 20 December 2022
From time to time, you will have to defend captured fortresses in Middle-earth: Shadow of War. Defense mechanic is very similar to assaults but the roles are reversed. This page of our guide describes how to successfully defend a fortress.
- Team defending a point. This time, you select captains that will defend your fortress. Similarly to assaults, you must choose resistant classes because, e.g. assassins aren't good for defending a fortress.
- Reviving dying units. Captains, that fall in a battle, will lay on a ground first. A bar around their health will slowly deplete which indicates how much time they have left before they die. If you want to avoid that, you can simply approach that orc and use the domination button on him. That orc's health bar is full again and he is ready to return on a battlefield.
- New enemy forces. Initially, your fortress is attacked only by a handful of captains. However, over time, new and more powerful orcs will start joining them. Also, if you lose a battle for a point and the enemy captures it, he will have a nasty surprise for you. A new orc captain arrives - he destroys a part of a wall and then joins the assault.
- Successful defense. In order to win you have to defeat all enemy captains. However, you won't be able to achieve that without a strong defense - when you defend one of the points and face captains, the rest of their forces will attack the rest of the points. You can't be everywhere at the same time and each captured point gives your enemy one additional captain. If this continues, you won't be able to defend yourself from enemy forces and you will lose your fortress.
Special upgrades are also useful in defending fortresses, their descriptions can be found in the dedicated chapter.
