Shadow of War: Fortress assault Middle-earth: Shadow of War Guide
Last update: 20 December 2022
With your progress in the storyline in Middle-earth: Shadow of War, you will get access to assaults on orc fortresses. On this page of our guide, you can find the most important information regarding attacks on fortresses:
- Assault force lineup. Before attack, you can choose up to six orcs that will join you in an assault. These squads, along with regular orcs, attack fortifications and try to capture fortress' control points. You should always choose captains with a highest level and those, that can withstand a lot.
- Weakening enemy forces. Weakening your enemy before an attack is always a good idea. Each fortress has a level (a total amount of levels of orcs that defend it and available upgrades) which indicates how difficult it is to capture a given fortress. If your team's level is too far from a fortress' level then you should hunt down orc captains that will defend a particular fortress. This will make your fight much easier!
- Assault. An assault starts outside of walls which means that you have to get inside first. The best way is to get on a wall and eliminate archers immediately. Then, you must accompany your allies and reach one of the control points marked on the map. There, you must face strong enemy captains. Defeat them - an indicator of that point will fill up when your forces defeat enemies. After that you must press the right button - this point is now under your control. Controlling all of them allows you to face an Overlord.
- Fight with an Overlord. Each fortress is ruled by a powerful Overlord who waits in his throne room. Usually, these fights are very difficult (most of the times, they have a "legendary" rank) and rather problematic. Each Overlord is surrounded by a lot of orcs and guarded by traps on ground. The best way to start these fights is to reach the upper area and dominate archers making them your allies. After that you should use area attacks and special abilities to kill a few orcs. You should also invest in a strong bodyguard - preferably a Beastmaster or Tank. An orc of that type can focus enemies' attention on himself which allows you to, e.g. perform stealth attacks on an Overlord.
Special upgrades are also useful in assaults, their descriptions can be found in the dedicated chapter.
