If achieving a good time is still causing you trouble, take a look at how the lap is done by the best drivers. After entering the race menu which is planned for a specific hour, you have the opportunity to see the table with the best qualification times (or training in FIA tournaments) and display the replay with their ride (the play icon next to the time).

The orange play icon will take us to the replay of the best lap.

During the projection, press the pause, go to the replay option and turn on all information about the race. After that the only thing you should do is change the view to bumper camera and observe the data at the bottom of the screen. You will see on which gear to enter the corner, where to break, where to cut the corners, how to gain additional fractions of seconds. It all makes sense, of course, if you use the same car as on the replay. In other models, even the gear you should change to slow down, may be different, and in top 10 leader board the best car for particular track usually dominates.
