Types of assists in Gran Turismo Sport Gran Turismo Sport Guide, Tips

Last update: 11 July 2018

GT Sport offers a whole range of help in driving a car, but if you think about real competition with others, you must use them wisely. You can turn off all artificial aids invented by the developers in the "Autopilot" options right away, the same applies to the prevention of car rotation or stability - each of them will slow us down significantly, allowing only a polite ride for relaxation.

Realism versus assistance - Types of assists in Gran Turismo Sport - Technical aspects - Gran Turismo Sport Game Guide

Realism versus assistance

Using ABS and TCS usually is realistic. In some series, they are allowed, in others not, but just in Gr.3, in which you usually race, they are present and in use. The second issue is the imperfection of the Gran Turismo physical engine, which does not allow to regulate important controller settings. You will not change the sensitivity of gas and brake operation or set dead zones, so driving a car without ABS and TCS is a bit harder than it should be - especially on a regular pad.

ABS - a system that prevents wheel locks during braking, you can set only before going to the track and you have to find out ourselves how you are doing without it and on one of two settings. Many players choose full or "weak" action and can also achieve good times.

This is the lack of control of the car with traction control disabled:

TCS (traction control) - you can freely manipulate it from the cockpit while driving. This operation prevents the wheels from slipping during acceleration, so you have a better chance that in a strong car you will not leave the track then, and the car will not spin. However, this is a sacrifice speed - without TCS, you have the chance to leave the bend at a higher speed. On the other hand, TCS protects our tires from quickly wearing out during long races, and this can give us better grip for longer time.

The simplest option is to set one of the TCS levels depending on the car used and our skills of gentle acceleration, so you shouldn't slip. In this case, you also have to experiment a bit, because everyone has their own preferences. First of all remember, that no fractions of seconds gained on the disabled TCS will compensate us for a possible loss after slip because of unskillful control of the car without TCS!

The ideal solution is to dynamically change the value of TCS while driving, depending on the specific section of the track or condition of the tires - just as drivers do during real races. It requires a bit of difficulty and certainly a lot of extra training, but it can always help you to gain a few fractions of a second.

Gearbox - manual is faster!

You will definitely achieve better times with the manual gearbox, but if you can't get used to the continuous swinging of gears during each lap, you do not have to panic. While you are using the automatic gearbox you can still win and get out of the lowest ranks of the driver. Problems will definitely start with opponents at level B and above. Pad users must accept the situation when they need to use manual gearbox, which is much less comfortable, and much more demanding, it takes much more time to get used to use the pad buttons for changing the gears.

Assists on the track

The ideal line - unlike other racing games - is not dynamic - its color doesn't change when braking is needed. It is useful for learning the destination on a particular route, but later you can turn it off, because when you are following it, you won't have a fast lap, while you are aggressively driving over track curbs and graters.

Bollards - Double mean braking points before each corner. They are useful when learning the track and thanks to them you associate elements of the environment more quickly with the moment of pressing the brake. However, they should not be treated as a final and unique determinant! For some cars and on some corners, this point will be somewhere else, and during the race the bollards can be easily mowed.

Single bollards indicate the moment of entering and leaving the bend and its center (apex), they can also be replaced with blue, virtual lights. Driving near them is the optimal, shortest way to turn the curve and get to the next one. The car then slows down the least and the tires wear out less.
