The driver's rank has a significant impact on ghosting. Ghosting makes the car "transparent," allowing to avoid collisions. On the lowest ranks (D and below) ghosting is very common and the collisions rarely happen. At higher ranks (C and above), ghosting is set to "weak" and appears sporadically, for example when returning to the track or spins, so contacts between cars and smaller and larger accidents are much more common.

By pressing the options button on the controller while you're out of track, you will move to your profile, where you can quickly check the current driver's status on the progress bar. Unfortunately, you can't look up the fairplay rank here.
