Lockpicking in Fallout 76 Fallout 76 Guide, Walkthrough
Last update: 20 November 2018
Lockpicking is an extremely useful skill if you are trying to explore the world of Fallout 76. Being proficient at lockpicking will allow you to access secured chests or other stashes of goods - this way, you will be able to gain some useful items. On this page, you will learn about the levels of locks and gain knowledge on how to open them.
What levels of locks are there?
Levels of locks range from 0 to 3. Level 0 locks can be opened without having any perks - you must simply have at least one bobby pin in your inventory (you will get these during exploration or you can buy them from merchants). On the other hand, you will need to have the relevant perks for higher levels of locks:
- Level 1 locks - the Picklock perk
- Level 2 locks - the Expert Picklock perk
- Level 3 locks - the Master Picklock perk
All of the perks listed above belong to the Perception category.
How to lockpick?
As mentioned above, you must have at least one bobby pin in your inventory to start opening a lock. When you try opening one, you will see an overlay with a bobby pin and a screwdriver - remember that the game takes place in real time and you can be attacked at any moment.
Lockpicking revolves around setting the pin in the correct location and then turning the screwdriver (when lockpicking, you will see the buttons used for the mentioned activities on your screen). If the pin is in the wrong place, you will encounter resistance when turning the screwdriver - the closer you are to the correct position, the further the core of the lock will turn. You have to continue making slight adjustments to the position of the pin, in order to try to determine the location of the open position. Remember that pins are not indestructible, so if you encounter resistance quite often, the pin will break at some point and disappear from your inventory.
