How perks work and how to get them in Fallout 76? Fallout 76 Guide, Walkthrough
Last update: 05 November 2018
Compared to the previous parts of the series, the perks system in Fallout 76 has been heavily changed. Perks are replaced by cards, i.e. profits that provide passive bonuses for our character. Profits affect various aspects of the game - damage dealt in combat, the ability to lift more items or the ability to lockpick difficult locks.
How do profits work?
At each profit card you will find a description of it - this way you will find out what the benefits of every perk. However, in order to receive perk bonuses, you must first activate the perk. In other words, you must assign the card to the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute (i.e. Strength, Intelligence, Luck and so on).
Look at the picture above. The upper part of the screen contains cards that are currently in use (i.e. their properties affect your character), and the lower part of the screen contains cards that are not currently in use. Each Perk is marked in advance to which attribute it belongs, so if you want to activate it, the game will automatically assign it to the corresponding S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute.
There are, however, some restrictions on the use of perks. Each perk has a numeric value, which is printed in the top left corner of the card. Each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute can only handle a certain number of profits, and precisely - the total value of selected profit cards cannot exceed the value of a given attribute.
For example, if your character has a Strength on level 3, you can assign perk cards to the Strength attribute with a total value of less than or equal to 3. For example, these can be three cards with each card having a value of 1 or one more powerful card with a value of 3.
Some perk cards can be combined to get one card for better bonuses. It's easy to see which cards can be upgraded - just look at the description of the card to see if there is more than one star. If there are two stars, it means that the card can be upgraded to a maximum of level 2 (if three stars, to level 3 and so on). Any upgrade of the card increases its value, which requires a more developed S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attribute.
The second limit on the use of profit cards is your character's level. Some perks can only be used once the required character level has been reached. It is also worth knowing that you can change the perk cards at any time during the game.
How to get new profits?
How do I get new perks? There is only one way to get them - you need to develop your character, i.e. you need to advance your hero to the next level. After each promotion of your character you can increase the selected attribute of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. by one point and choose one profit card (belonging to the attribute you are currently increasing).
In addition, you will receive packages with four random profit cards. Perks from the packages are completely random and may belong to different attributes of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. When do you get these packages? First at level 4, 6, 8 and 10 of your character, and then every 5 experience levels.
