How to fight efficiently? | FAQ | Ancestors Legacy Ancestors Legacy Guide and Walkthrough
Below you can find a few tips on how to fight well in Ancestors Legacy.

- Counter enemy units. Each squad in the game has another unit that can counter them. Spearmen are deadly against cavalry but a regular infantry can deal with them without any problems. Ranged units are deadly from a distance but they are completely defenseless in close combat. Remember which unit can counter another to avoid selecting all available units and sending them to attack the enemy.
- Try to flank enemy squads and don't let them escape. Use the advantage of having more units and always flank your enemies from a side or try to attack them from behind. This grants combat bonus to your units and it weakens your opponents.
- Defend yourself in narrow passages. One powerful and upgraded units of Shieldbearers can stop multiple enemies. Simply order them to use defensive strategy. The only thing you should remember about is to be sure that enemies won't be able to attack you from a side.
- Use traps. A spiked trap can decimate even fully upgraded enemies. This helps a lot in combat - always try to lure enemies to traps to make fights easier.
- Use archers and siege equipment to attack hostile settlements. There is no point in attacking a settlement when your enemy has Archery Towers - your losses will be severe. On top of that the enemy usually recruits new units at an unfair rate. Better to destroy a wall from a distance and then order your troops to enter a village. This is also a good way of luring your enemies towards traps.
- Each faction has strong and weak sides. Some factions are better at defending (Anglo-Saxons) while other focus on fast infantry attacks (Vikings). You have to learn how to use their mechanics to become efficient in battles. More information about the factions can be found in the separate chapter.
- Retreat a unit when it is at a brink of death. This is your key to success. Strong and upgraded units have immense advantage over other squads. This means that you have to take care of them - you only need one warrior to survive to be able to restore that squad and to keep all their upgrades.
- Weather conditions and bushes. Visibility is better during the day than at night. You can wait until night to sneak around enemies unnoticed. The same goes for weather conditions - rain reduces archers' range which you can also be used to your advantage.
- Defend yourself near settlements. Archery Towers and attacks performed by your villagers can help you in defense. Try to face the biggest assaults near your settlements to minimize your own loses.
