Enigma codes | Collectibles Secrets and collectibles in Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus Guide
Last update: 16 November 2017
Enigma codes are special collectibles in the game. You obtain them each time you kill an enemy commander (the type of opponent that can activate the alarm) and that has his own marker at the top of the screen (if there is one around). The codes are used to track down Überkommandants - once you do that, you can go on a mission to kill the opponent and obtain the Skull card that he drops, which is one of the collectibles in the game (it is also connected with two trophies/achievements in the game).
Once you have obtained the Codes, you will have to reach, at least, to the end of the chapter entitled "New Suit" - while you are on your way to Grace, you will get the opportunity to use Enigma Codes, which you will be informed about with a special icon. After that, all you have to do is to sit in the armchair located several meters away from the mission selection map and start the process going.
Here, you have to complete a minigame. You will see two rows of icons with various numbers of dots. Using keys, you can control the bottom row. Your task is to match the symbols in the bottom row (their number and placement) with those in the top row. First you have to match the symbol in 01, then in 02 and so on. Once you have matched all the symbols, you will have completed the puzzle and unlocked the mission of a given Überkommandant (which you can select from the map).
You should remember about several issues connected with this mechanic:
- Killing the commanders to obtain codes is not difficult - Picking them up may be a trifle more problematic. This results from the fact that you have to pick items up manually - it takes more than walking over the item, like in the case of the rest of the items. This is why, these are easy to miss.
- Each puzzle connected with an Überkommandant consumes a specific number of Enigma Codes.
- These missions are time trials - if the time runs out, the pool of available Enigma Codes will be diminished by the number required by this specific puzzle. This is easy to work around, because you can stop solving the puzzle once you notice that you are running out of time. This way, you will not lose your Codes.
- If you want collectibles, it is necessary to play the Überkommandant missions, Überkommandants, in themselves, drop Skull cards that are a type of collectibles. Additionally, some "regular" items can be obtained only during those missions.
