Sneak, hide and seek
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a game that places great emphasis on stealth and sneaking. Aggressive and offensive tactics, which involve doing as much damage as possible, will not work here - instead it is worth focusing on approaching the target quietly and eliminating enemies with single head shots while being undetected.
Use the ability to move dead bodies
This may not be the level of Hitman series, but in Breakpoint you can carry bodies of killed enemies and use this mechanics to remove a dead corpse from the path of another enemy soldier. Thus, you will reduce the chance of triggering an alarm and significantly simplify the task of clearing a given location.
Watch the sky
The map area is regularly patrolled by enemy helicopters and drones. While being targeted by an enemy helicopter is not that problematic - because it will attract the attention of nearby enemies at most - the matter with a drone is much more serious issue. When a drone tracks you, it will summon mercenaries - The Wolves, who are far more dangerous than regular enemies. Additionally, the drone will interfere with radio signal, which causes problems with your mini-map (it turns off and you can't navigate through terrain). When you see a helicopter or drone in the sky, hide behind an obstacle or in bushes. Then, wait for it to fly away.
Use the camouflage
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint allows you to hide in various places. You can hide behind one of the many terrain obstacles. Also, you can use bushes and plants too. When a character hides in them, the screen will darken slightly, which means you're practically invisible to enemy soldiers - they may only see you when they practically step on you. Also, you can use camouflage - just lie down on the ground, where there is mud or snow and press the appropriate button displayed on the screen - your character will "blend" into the ground, which gives the effect of being combined with surroundings.
Use weapons with silencer
Installing a silencer on a weapon reduces the damage it deals, but allows for a relatively silent elimination of enemies. This way, you can easily clean up a smaller enemy post without triggering an alarm. However, the silencer does not completely silence the weapon - if enemies are a dozen or so meters away from the shooting place, they will hear it anyway.
Note - silencer can be installed smoothly on the weapon while aiming from it, just press the appropriate button displayed on the screen, and after a few seconds it will be mounted or dismounted.
Use your own drone
The ability to use a drone is unlocked after the first visit to a resistance facility. It will allow you to easily mark enemy positions (for which you will also receive experience points after unlocking the appropriate ability) without the risk of being detected. It is worth using a drone to explore the map - focusing its "sight" on the "?" sign visible somewhere in the distance will allow you to discover this place on the map of the world.
Mark your enemies
You can mark your enemies by yourself by keeping a sight on them for a short while or by using a drone. Thanks to this you can see their positions all the time, which will significantly ease in defeating all enemies in specific location. Also pay attention to the color of the icon above their heads - white means an enemy who is completely unaware of the threat, yellow is the color that appears when the enemy is alarmed (for example, he heard the shot or found a dead body). Red appears when the enemy knows where you are and he/she will start to attack you.
Regularly get rid of small enemy groups
Literally every step of the way on the world map, you will find small groups of enemies, patrolling the area or standing by the car or motorbike, counting from 2 to 5 soldiers. It is worth eliminating such groups - thanks to that you will gain several hundred points of experience, without risking any chance to start an alarm.
Explore the map
Even if you only care about the main plot and don't want to complete side tasks, it's worth remembering to explore the map. As you travel through the island, you will encounter the above-mentioned enemy groups or locations where you will find containers with equipment or in-game currency - it is worth visiting such places in order to obtain additional items and resources.
Discover places to camp
Bivouac spots are points scattered around the map where the character can rest. Unexplored places of this type can be easily located after discovering the smoke from their center. Once you have unlocked the site (just approach it or locate it with a drone/ binoculars), you will be able to start camping. This has several advantages, namely:
- Allows your character to rest - the stamina bar will run out more slowly.
- Allows you to activate one of the multiple amplifications and boosts (for example, bonus to the experience), lets you change the class of the character or use the store to replace equipment or even buy a car.
- Allows you to change the in-game time - you can select the time when the rest will end. This is useful when, for example, you want to attack an enemy outpost at night.
- It serves as a place for fast travel - you can move freely from between these points from the map level, which significantly shortens your journey from point A to point B.
It's worth unlocking these points as soon as you discover them - for example during a drive/flight to a mission point.
Keep an eye on your stamina bar
Stamina bar appears at the bottom of the screen when you perform some exhausting actions like sprint, climbing or running down the slope. Watch its condition - once it gets exhausted during a sprint, you won't be able to continue moving fast anymore. The biggest problem is when you descend from a mountain slope - when your stamina is exhausted at that point, your character will simply fall over, roll over, take damage and may die from the fall-down impact.
Change your equipment regularly
Like the Division series, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint puts emphasis on a level-based inventory system. Item levels are then added together to show the overall equipment level of the character. This level determines which items you will gain (usually several levels higher than the character level), as well as the overall strength of the character - how much damage you deal and how much resistance you can withstand from the enemy fire. So it's a good idea to replace your old equipment regularly and upgrade all your items.
Choose the right weapon
The lion's share of battles takes place in open areas, so assault rifles and snipers that allow you to fire from a long distance, are great. The best solution is to use a weapon for short and medium distance combat (like a machine gun, shotgun or assault rifle) and a second one for long distance combat (accurate assault rifle or sniper rifle) - thanks to that you will be able to fight effectively at any distance.
Modify and upgrade weapons
Most weapons in the game can be modified by adding other types of weapon sights, silencers and other elements influencing the amount of damage dealt, stability and storage capacity of the magazine. Subsequent modifications are unlocked as the game progresses, it is worthwhile to check them on the fly and choose the right one for you.
In addition, weapons can also be upgraded - each such upgrade increases the parameters of the weapon like the amount of damage dealt, accuracy or reload rate. Improvements are related with weapon types - for example, a specific upgrade of a rifle will upgrade every rifle of that type, even one with better stats.
Note - upgrades and enhancements can be installed from the inventory and equipment window. Simply select the weapon and press the on-screen button to open the modification window.
Try out all character classes
At the moment there are 4 character classes available in the game - Assault, Field Medic, Panther and Sharpshooter - each of them is played differently, because they give bonuses for different weapons or focus on fighting at a specific distance. Test all the character classes available in the game and choose the one that suits you best.
Note - character classes can be changed during camping, whether at camping sites scattered around the map or at the Erewhon resistance outpost.
Unlock appropriate skills
The game has a simple character development system - for killing enemies and completing tasks you will receive experience points that increase the level of your character and unlock skill points which can be distributed. You can use these to unlock new abilities. There are several dozen of them in the game and they differ in their usefulness. It is worth to think twice before unlocking a given ability, whether it is better to use the point for something else.
Please note that list of skills that should be unlocked at the beginning of the game can be found in a separate chapter of this guide.
