Drone in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint guide, tips
Last update: 04 October 2019
A drone is a very useful tool in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Just like in the previous part of the series, Wildlands, the player uses a drone for scouting. We can also get new features for it. In this chapter, you will learn all about a drone.
How do I unlock and use the drone?
Every fan of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands, will probably try to activate the drone as soon as the game begins. In Breakpoint, you can't use this gadget right away - the drone is unavailable at the beginning of the game. To access it, you need to complete the Eagles Down mission, which takes place before reaching the base in Erewhon. After a conversation with one of the members of the Ghost squad, the player will finally get the drone.
To use it, simply press the X key on PC or hold up on the d-pad up in the PS4 and XONE versions. Once activated, the drone will fly into the air - you can control it. The drone controls can be problematic for novice players, but you can quickly get used to them.
Advantages of using a drone
The main use of the drone is scouting. With it, you can safely examine the surroundings for potential threats and points of interest. When an enemy is in the center of the drone's camera, it will be marked - that enemy is visible until you either kill that person or move farther away. As for places, you will receive additional information about them, e.g. what is inside a given location. Moreover, if you examine an unknown place (usually indicated by a question mark icon), it will appear on the world map, along with a set of information on what you can find there. Thanks to the drone, you can also discover camping spots.
It is worth noting that the use of the drone doesn't cost you anything - you don't need items or materials for this, you can activate it at any time. The only limitation is the battery and range. When the battery runs out, the drone will be deactivated for a few tens of seconds. The same happens when you fly the drone too far away from your character.
Tips
Check a few tips for using the drone:
- The drone is a great tool for marking enemies. Before you start attacking a given location, spend several minutes on marking enemies and interesting objects with the drone - this will help you significantly.
- Try to unlock Recon Mastery Perk. When you activate it, you will receive a small amount of experience points for each enemy marked by the drone. The number is, however, adds up fast - you can often have a situation where marking enemies in a location will fill up 1/3 of the experience bar.
- You can increase the functionality of the drone by using abilities. Thanks to them, the drone can use night vision or thermal vision, have bigger range, battery life or expand the area in which it can mark enemies (you don't need to aim perfectly at the enemy, it is enough to place the center of the camera next to the target).
- The drone is inaudible to enemies, but they can detect if you move very close to them. If you fly near an enemy soldier, he will detect the drone instantly and shoot it down. After that, you have to wait to be able to use it again. In addition, after the enemies discover your drone, they will search the area.
