Crafting The Technomancer Guide
Last update: 29 June 2016
One of the side activates in the game is the ability to create upgrades for your equipment: weapons and attire, and single-use items. . This is an easy and intuitive system: to create first level upgrades you won't even need any abilities, but later in the game you will need to invest in Creation. After activating a Workshop you must select a weapon you want to modify and a screen showing all of the elements you can attach to it will appear (not all items can be upgraded). After selecting the field you will be able to choose the upgrade itself and the effect it will have on the item. In the case of weapons, you will be able to, for instance, increase the amount of damage the weapon deals, the chances of a critical strike, or allow the weapon to poison enemies (dagger-only). Note that upgrades cannot be disassembled - make sure that the item is definitely worth it, especially if it requires a lot of crafting materials to create.
You can also create single-use items: such as syringes regenerating health / Power and traps. They don't require valuable crafting materials to create and you can manufacture them to sell them to a trader. After developing Exploration to the 3rd level you will be able to create them outside of the Workshop.
As you will notice, not all of the upgrades are available from the start. A lot of them (blueprints) must be purchased from traders. The first blueprints will be available to purchase from Joe, in the center of The Exchange. Higher-leveled upgrades will be available in subsequent chapters, from traders in newly visited locations.
To create an upgrade you will need crafting materials. There aren't many of them, which is why you shouldn't have problems with finding them in the game. However, traders will also sell crafting materials - it's definitely more profitable to simply accumulate some Serum and purchase those materials from them, instead of wandering through the world. Crafting materials are divided into quality groups, and you won't be able to replace them with "lower" ones - you must deliver the acquired / purchased crafting material of the exact quality. The only crafting material that can be easily acquired is skin - those can be collected from defeated monsters (first in The Underworks, and then, for instance, in Valles Marineris), but only after spending a single point in Exploration.
Items can also be disassembled for crafting materials. After clicking the disassembly button you will be able to see what materials you will be able to get. Increasing the level of Creation gives a higher chance of getting more materials from disassembly. After purchasing the first level of the ability you won't have to use the Workshop for the process. Disassembling items is rarely a profitable process - you will gain more by simply selling the item and using the Serum you've gained to purchase specific crafting materials.
