Sculptor's Idols / Bonfires in Sekiro Shadows Die Twice Sekiro guide, walkthrough

Last update: 21 March 2019

In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Sculptor's Idols (can also be referred to as bonfires) serve as respawn points, checkpoints, fast travel points, and places where you can strengthen your character. Every region has a Sculptor's Idol - it becomes active when you interact with it for the first time. Note - the game saves automatically when you rest and use fast travel.

When you die, you get resurrected at the nearest active checkpoint. Look for a Sculptor's Idol every time you visit a new location. Thanks to that, you will be able to go back to this place and try beating this location again.

Rest is very important. Use this mechanic to:

  1. Replenish your health,
  2. Respawn enemies. Bosses that lost a bit of health will get it back,
  3. Replenish Healing Gourds - free healing items (with time, you will be able to carry more of them),
  4. Replenish Spirit Emblems, provided that you have bought more of them (you consume them by using abilities of your prosthetic arm - they cost 10 sen per piece).

Tip: go back to a checkpoint if you lost too much health. There is no point in dying or using up healing items (especially those you need to pay for) when you can go back and replenish your health for free.

Note: enemies can interrupt your rest. Before you use this option, eliminate or lure out a nearby enemy.

Fast travel

Sculptor's Idols allow you to fast travel for free to locations you have already visited. Fast traveling also makes your character rest. You can also go back to Dilapidated Temple, the place where you have started the game.

Upgrading character

Sculptor's Idols also give you the option to upgrade your character - new options are unlocked after you purchase previous ones (this is for both skills and prosthetic arm upgrades). At first, you will only be able to increase your stats with Prayer Beads (their amount is displayed on the right). You get them by defeating powerful bosses - Prayer Beads are added to your inventory automatically after dealing a fatal blow.

Here, you can also buy Spirit Emblems - you need them to be able to use your prosthetic's skills. Otherwise, you won't be able to use your arm.
