Online play - is it mandatory?

Once you launch Deathloop, it will try to log into the Bethesda - Deathloop: System requirements - Appendix - Deathloop Guide

Once you launch Deathloop, it will try to log into the Bethesda.net service and then connect to the game's servers. Deathloop doesn't require constant online play, but it's recommended to fully experience the game. If you choose to play offline / in single player mode, you won't have access to:

  1. Invasions by other players - Julianna will always be controlled by AI.
  2. Playing as Julianna - she needs constant connection to the servers, as by playing as her you need to attack other players who are playing as Colt.

You can also choose to play offline on purpose to make Julianna less of a threat in your playthrough. We've described this topic in detail on the Invasions - what are they? page.

PS5 - Visual Modes

On the PS5, Deathloop offers three visual modes - Deathloop: System requirements - Appendix - Deathloop Guide

On the PS5, Deathloop offers three visual modes.

  1. Performance - This is the default visual mode. It offers dynamic 4K scaling and prioritises the game's performance. It is intended to offer stable 60 frames per second, but while preparing the guide in this mode we've still experienced sporadic frame loss, for example when traversing the castle rooftops in Updaam or during intense combat encounters. Raytracing is not available in this mode.
  2. Visual Quality - This mode offers dynamic 4K scaling that prioritises the graphics. It's intended to offer 60 frames per second with occasional drops. Raytracing is not available in this mode.
  3. Raytracing - This mode is the only one that lets you play with the titular feature enabled. Just like in the Visual Quality mode, it offers 4K dynamic scaling and prioritises the graphics over performance. Unfortunately, enabling raytracing locks the framerate to stable 30 frames per second.

User interface (HUD)

Deathloop allows you to customize the info displayed on the screen so it can fit your own preferences - Deathloop: System requirements - Appendix - Deathloop Guide

Deathloop allows you to customize the info displayed on the screen so it can fit your own preferences. The configuration options include displaying communicates on the screen, displaying health bars, power bars, the aiming reticle, interaction options, info regarding collected items or quest markers.

In a separate tab of the HUD menu you can also customize the subtitles - choose the language, their size and range (for example, displaying only the main dialogue).
