On this page of our Deathloop guide you'll find a description regarding locating and defeating Charlie Montague in a boss fight - he's one of the Visionaries (the game's main antagonists). Key info about Charlie and his whereabouts

Charlie Montague is a mad genius busy with organising a crazy survival game. This Visionary's unique feature is that he can appear in two different locations while playing the game.

By default, Charlie's default location is his hideout in Updaam, looking like a small castle by a cliff. Charlie's quarters can only be accessed once you set your time of day as midday in the preparation window. Infiltrating Montague's hideout is one of the objectives in the Space Invader Visionary Lead we've described in our walkthrough.

Charlie's second possible location is a bunker in the Fristad Rock district. During the Space Invader mission you can find out Charlie and Fia are in a relationship, usually meeting up inside the bunker.

The main area of the bunker is initially inaccessible. You must advance to the Afternoon Delight Visionary Lead and, while working on it, learn the solution to the puzzle opening the underground complex. In order to encounter Charlie (and Fia) in the Fristad Rock bunker you'll need to visit it during the afternoon.

As we've already mentioned, during the Afternoon Delight mission Fia also appears in the bunker. It allows you to dispatch both Visionaries at once. Doing so is required to complete the final day of the game.

Murdering Charlie - Updaam

As a reminder, eliminating Charlie in his default hideout (the building by the cliff in Updaam) is described in detail on the page regarding the Space Invader lead. If you enter Charlie's building through one of the more obvious exits, he'll notice you and say so through the speakers, beginning a hunt. You'll have to deal with enemies while trying to make your way up.

You can also use Shift to teleport to distant ledges, balconies or windows. Theoretically, this could allow you to infiltrate the building without alerting Charlie.

Charlie can be found on the higher floors of his hideout. You can look for an opportunity to ambush him, but you must remember he could be surrounded by Eternalists. You can also defeat him in direct combat by using firearms, offensive powers or gadgets.

It's possible that Charlie will run away to a room on the roof, and you shouldn't rush after him if that happens. There are laser traps in the area. Additionally, you can encounter a turret in the room of the roof. You should help yourself with Aether or wait for Charlie to leave his hiding spot.

Murdering Charlie - Fristad Rock

As a reminder, murdering Charlie in his meeting place with Fia (the bunker in Fristad Rock) is described in detail on the Afternoon Delight page. After you unlock the underground complex by solving the cassette puzzle you'll need to go down to its lowest floor. Here, you'll witness Charlie and Fia arguing.

The happy couple can be easily dispatched via trickery. To do so, you need to sneak into the upper control room and pull a lever that will flood the bunker. This means you'll need to quickly escape to the surface - on your way you'll need to hack the antenna over the locked door.

Charlie and Fia can also be ambushed - while they're arguing (by, for example, throwing grenades at them or gunning them down from a higher ledge) or after they go their separate ways (sneak attacks). You should expect the countdown until the bunker floods to start in this case as well, which means you'll need to run away once again.

Rewards for defeating the boss

When defeated, Charlie Montague drops the Shift power, providing an extremely useful possibility of teleportation. Obtaining this power ASAP should be your priority. Aside from getting the power, you can interact with his corpse to get Residuum and look through the loot he dropped - you could find the Strelak 50-50 firearm and various trinkets.

Eliminating Charlie again in subsequent loops can reward you with Shift upgrades and the aforementioned standard rewards (Residuum, weapons, Trinkets).
