Using gas stations; driver resting | Driving your truck across the States American Truck Simulator Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Pay attention to fuel level. The information is displayed on:
- a dashboard (use [I] to switch between screens) in vehicle interior,
- Route Advisor panel in the lower right corner,
- the main control panel ([Escape]) on the right in "my truck" section.
Additionally, the panel and the dashboard displays information about how far can you drive without having to stop.
When the fuel level is low an appropriate alert will be displayed. However, you should not be so reckless. Sometimes it is very hard to find any gas station. Plan your route carefully including gas stations and do not risk an empty fuel tank. It is worth knowing that you can drive for about 150 miles since the warning alert is displayed.
On a highway a special sign will inform you about approaching a gas station and a park space. In case of ordinary roads, such sign is located close to the station. It is hard to miss it, as usually it is near the road. Use a map to find a station.
To take fuel park near the fuel dispenser where the green icon is displayed. Then turn off the engine ([E] by default) and hold the button ([Enter] by default) to take the fuel. It will take a while as the fuel tanks are large, but you have to hold the button the whole time. When the tanks are full the operation is complete. Of course you do not have to tank to the full.
Driver's rest- work time
A driver is a human being and he needs to rest. The Route Advisor tells you how long you driver may continue (lower right corner, "current order" tab - [F6] by default).
Regenerating
When a driver gets tired, special messages are displayed. You have to find a place to rest (marked with a blue bed icon). These are parking lots next to hotels or roads. There are many of them in the game.
Park on such parking lot, turn off the engine ([E] by default) and go asleep ([Enter] by default). When you are resting you see only passing hours. Remember that you can rest when you are looking for orders but also during shipping cargo. Pay attention to delivery time as you may, quite literally, sleep through the deadline.
If you neglect messages reminding you that you must take a rest, the notifications will become more frequent, you will hear yawning sound and the picture will get darker with displayed "falling asleep" message. However, it does not limit your driving ability therefore you may continue and deliver the cargo. Remember that when you're falling asleep you lose control of the vehicle and you can cause a serious accident.
