Resistance Orders | Game mechanics XCOM 2: War of the Chosen Game Guide

Last update: 31 August 2017

Resistance Orders is another novelty introduced by the War of the Chosen. These are, in a nutshell, special order cards that, when placed in their respective nests, offer a variety of bonuses that give additional skill points, reduce production costs or cause some projects to finish immediately or even offer additional space for contact with the resistance movement. They are not essential to the gameplay, but provide additional gameplay options.

You might want to unlock additional cards and order nests as soon as you can.

The Resistance Orders can be configured in a special window that opens once a month, right after the Council allocates resources for the player - you can look this window up at any time, but changes can only be introduced at this particular occasion. In the Orders screen you will find four columns - each of them allows you to give orders on slightly different conditions. The first is the Wildcard Orders column - there you can assign an order card to any faction. The remaining three represent the three factions - Reapers (yellow), Renegades (red) and Templars (violet). There you can only assign the cards that correspond to the faction.

After finishing the Hunt the Chosen X missions, additional card slots will be unlocked. - Resistance Orders | Game mechanics - Game mechanics - XCOM 2 Game Guide
After finishing the "Hunt the Chosen X" missions, additional card slots will be unlocked.

At the beginning of the game you can only assign one card to the wild card slot and none faction, but along with the progress of the game and the completion of secret operations for the fraction of resistance, the number will increase. If you max out relationships with all the factions, including wild cards, you'll be able to use up to 9 command cards (3 wild cards and 2 for each faction) - the corresponding selection can significantly affect the gameplay.

Finally, some tips that may be helpful when using this mechanics:

  1. By default, you only have 1 place in the "wildcard" column. To increase them, you have to build a new base - the Resistance Movement. Once you do this, you will need to equip it with both enhancements - each of which will unlock additional space in the mentioned column, offering up to 3 slots for any card.
  2. In order to increase the number of orders for individual faction, you must perform specific Covert Actions, i.e. the missions for the resistance faction. These are the missions that allow you to target the enemy of the Chosen - "Hunt the Chosen X", both Part I and Part II, which are always at the top of the mission list. Execution of part 1 unlocks one slot and the second part - the second seat. Completing them will also reward you with additional command cards, and will unlock additional covert actions.
  3. Resistance orders allow you to increase the number of contacts with resistance by 2, thanks to a card reserved for Renegade faction (red cards). 2 additional contacts is a gigantic bonus, which is especially useful during the initial weeks of play when there is no opportunity to build a suitable facility.
  4. Remember that the order cards cannot be changed until the next "funding clearance" with the Council (when you receive the resources from the board) - so choose them wisely.
  5. The most profitable Orders that you should unlock are those that increase the experience points gained and doubling the AP gain (both related to the Templars), increasing the number of contacts with the resistance movement (the Reaper card) and the one that causes enemies to drop more items after death. (Renegade card). If you have trouble controlling the progress of the AWATAR project, you may want to consider using the Sabotage card (Renegades), which removes one segment of the progress bar of the project at the end of each month
