ADVENT Turrets make their appearance during some of the missions - especially during assaults on facilities.

You will stumble upon the automated ADVENT Turrets during some of the missions - especially those during which you will assault alien facilities, as well as when you are trying to secure a cargo. Turrets, given their stationary character, are used to defend key positions - entrances to facilities, as well as important story-related items.

The "enemy" has relatively small health pool (ranging from 4 to 6 during the first weeks), but is one of the first alien units that comes equipped with armor. As months in the game pass, the stationary turret will become a lot more durable, becoming one of the most tanky units in the game - having up to 12 points of health (on the highest difficulty level) and up to 4 points of armor.

Despite their durability, ADVENT Turrets have below average offensive and defensive capabilities. They lack any defense, and most of the time are exposed in an open field, making them extremely easy to hit. Their biggest flaw, however, is their poor accuracy - even soldiers standing in the open will be able to dodge most of their attacks. The aim is somewhat compensated by the fact that they are able to act twice during a single round - the second action mostly ends in entering Overwatch.

To deal with the turrets, you should remember about:

  • This is a mechanized enemy, meaning that you will be able to use the Haywire Protocol of the Specialist class to take control over the turret, or simply turn it off (stun) for a few rounds. ADVENT Turret has a relatively weak defense against hacking, allowing even the inexperienced Specialists to easily break through their defenses. Taking control over the turret and using it to kill an enemy will award you with an achievement.
  • Despite having insane amount of armor, the enemy, given its mechanized character, is extremely vulnerable to EMP Grenades / Bombs, as well as the Bluescreen Protocol rounds - the latter, equipped on a Sharpshooter, will allow the soldier to take out the turret with a single shot.
  • If you're planning to take control over the turret and use it to divert the enemy attention, don't even try to - the enemies seem to don't care about the turret that is shooting at them and will focus their attacks on your soldiers (provided that they are in the range), completely ignoring the turret.
