What's new in Tropico 6? Tropico 6 guide, tips
Last update: 25 March 2019
Even though Tropico 6 has many features introduced by its predecessors, it brings a number of novelties to the gameplay mechanics. This section describes these mechanics and provides some advice on how to use them during the game.
A single Island replaced by an Archipelago
The biggest novelty introduced by Tropico 6 is the fact that you assume control over an archipelago, so you have to connect the islands it comprises. You can do that in several ways. The easiest one is to build a Teamster Port. It allows you to travel between the islands that have this particular building or a Dock. It works similarly to Teamster's Office, which means that it hires new workers responsible for shipping goods.
The second way involves building a bridge. You will unlock this option during the World Wars. Building a bridge is very easy. Just drag a road between two isles. You have to keep in mind, though that bridges have a specified maximum length. You cannot connect two islands with a bridge if they are too much apart.
In the later stages of the game, you will be able to use the Teleferic Station to transport people. This is an effective method; however, it proves useless for transporting goods.
Broker
One of the new El Presidente's "advisors" is the Broker. He helps in gathering funds on your Swiss account by offering new additional tasks. He also allows you to spend this money on different bonuses.

Raids
Another significant novelty involves the raids. These are organized expeditions during which you can acquire new citizens, sabotage a superpower, unlock a new wonder of the world, etc. In order to unlock raids, you have to erect the following buildings: Pirate Cove, Commando Garrison, Spy Academy, Cyber Operations Center. Each of them allows you to start a different raid. To start a raid, you need to have a sufficient amount of the so-called Raid Points.
More details about raids can be found in a dedicated section of this guide.
Blueprints
Just like in its predecessor, in Tropico 6 players can unlock building blueprints within particular eras. This time, however, you do not do that via research. Each blueprint has to be purchased for a specified amount of money.
Buildings you have to acquire this way have blue icons [1]. Upon selecting them, you will get the information on how much do you have to spend in order to unlock them [2] so that you can build them.
Knowledge and Raid points are stored
Knowledge and Raid points work in a similar way. To unlock a given technology or to start a raid, you have to generate a significant amount of the right points. Knowledge points are generated by the Library, while the Raid points are generated by the Pirate Cove. These points are generated only if there is a worker in the right building. In Tropico 6, the points that are generated when you do not perform any actions using them are stored for later use.
