Tourism is a specific part of economy found in Tropico 6, as it is dependent on incoming foreign visitors who come to leave some cash on your island. The chapter below contains information that will help you develop your own tropical paradise for tourists.
Tourism is unlocked somewhat late in the game, during Cold War. During that time, you receive ability to build first hotels. Visitors value cleanliness and aesthetics, so it is important to build such objects in attractive neighborhoods.
The best solution is to dedicate one of the islands to serve only as a tourism venue. This will help you create optimal conditions of the environment. Numerous entertainment buildings and gardens will make tourists feel welcome on the island. Moreover, build housing of higher standard, such as Apartment or Tenement and issue Mandatory Waste Sorting to lower the amount of waste that is produced by these buildings.
Tourists are divided into a few classes. Each of them expects different attractions from your island, for example, adrenaline-seeking tourists will want to visit buildings such as Snorkel Bay or Hang Gliding. Moreover, they will inhabit certain hotels. To learn what types of tourists are attracted by the chosen hotel, point onto its icon in the building menu. The same applies to entertainment buildings.
Remember to build objects that support the type of tourists arriving to the island. Otherwise, they won't use the venues and you lose some of your earnings.
The popularity of your island is determined by a special indicator which is influenced by many factors. One of the most important factors is political situation. If rebels are rampant, or you are in danger of an invasion, the tourists will avoid your island. The buildings that you build (e.g. some world wonders) also influence the tourist factor.
The current state of the tourism indicator, the housing capability of your hotels, and the list of tourists that are currently on your island can be found in the Almanac in the Economy tab.
