Open the first door on the left in corridor and go inside. Pick up a scarf from carpet.
Notice a mess on the bed.
And violins (or rather a lack of case for it) on a table.
Pay your attention at a panelling below the window. Something here will interest Holmes.
Remove boards with a spade-axe: you'll find a box behind them.
Take it.
Zoom on it. Rotate a box with mouse movements, examine every side. You find numbers: click on them.
On front: IV - in rows: 10, 8, 6; 3, 7, 11; 2, -, 4.
On bottom: II - in columns: 4, 2, 3; 1, 6, 2; 5, 3, -.
On back: III - 21, 18, 16, 15, 12, 10, 9, 6.
And on one side: I - 1, 2, 3, 5.
As you can see those notes are marked from I to IV. Watson will write it down in proper order. IT's, of course, a hint to set dials on the box right.
I - sequence of adding next numbers to each other:
1 + 2 = 3;
2 + 3 = 5.
So another one should be:
3 + 5 = 8,
what means, that 8 is a missing number on a dial I.
II - in every column a sum of numbers is 9:
4 + 2 + 3 = 9;
1 + 6 + 2 = 9,
so the third column should be like this:
5 + 3 + 1 = 9,
what means that 1 is a missing number on a dial II.
III - spiral starting at 21, where the second number is less about 3, the third one is less about 2 from the second one and the fourth is less about 1 from the third one:
21 - 3 = 18,
18 - 2 = 16,
16 - 1 = 15.
And starts over:
15 - 3 = 12,
12 - 2 = 10,
10 - 1 = 9,
and again: 9 - 3 = 6,
so the next line should be like this:
6 - 2 = 4,
what means that 4 is a missing number on a dial III.
IV - here you have three sequences. In first numbers differ by 2, in the second by 4 and in the third one by 1:
10 - 2 = 8,
8 - 2 = 6;
3 + 4 = 7,
7 + 4 =11;
2 + 1 = 3,
3 + 1 = 4,
what means that 3 is a missing number on a dial IV.
So set those numbers on dials: 8, 1, 4, 3. Box will open and... it's empty. Inscription informs that it contained Colt Paterson.
Now go at the opposite wall. Notice a lack of hat and coat on a hanger.
On a desk you will find still warm candle.
Search a bin by the desk, where you find a torn piece of paper. Holmes will claim that there were also an onion.
Place this pieces of paper on a desk. A puzzle appears, where you have fit fragments to each other. on the desk.
Problem is, that the paper is blank and you can rely only on parts' edges and visible stains. Four corner fragments are easy to recognize. Wheel-mouse rotate a paper, LMB moves and joins them.
Riddle has four solutions (because the paper is a square) and it's a random puzzle, so I can't provide you with a step-by-step solution, because pieces are placed differently every time.
After completing the paper, use a clothes pegs at weird thing on a desk and hand a blank paper on it.
Light the candle with matches. Then click on a paper. Fire will reveal message written in onion juice. Zoom, and move candle in front of the paper to notice next words by clicking LMB.
Fragments you get will display under the paper. Put them in a right order. It's an address: Stinging Street Wharf 3 2 1 south bank.
Another riddle, concerning missing items in room and garden, appears. Point at revolver, spade and violin case. Gentlemen will decide that they have to head at the received address.
