Key information about the trophies in The Last of Us 2
- Earning the platinum trophy in The Last of Us 2 is much easier than in the first part of the series. However, it may be time-consuming and take you about 30 hours.
- The greatest facilitation in the case of TLoU2 trophies is that there are no multiplayer trophies, as the game has no multiplayer content at the time of its release. The Factions online feature will be released at a later date.
- Another major facilitation is that you can play the game on any difficulty level, and that's because none of the trophies are associated with the selection of a certain difficulty level. If you want to get the platinum trophy as soon as possible, you can choose a very low level of difficulty. However, such action will certainly deprive you of the pleasure of experiencing the game in proper way, that is, feeling the atmosphere of a merciless post-apocalyptic world.
- The Last of Us 2 contains a relatively small number of trophies. There are 26 trophies to unlock - 1 Platinum trophy, 7 Gold, 8 Silver and 10 Bronze trophies.
- Most of the trophies consist in finding various kinds of collectibles. Trophies are associated with secrets such as artifacts, safes, workbenches, coins, trading cards and journal entries.
- To earn platinum trophy you must acquire and upgrade all weapons and purchase all passive abilities. This applies to both Ellie and Abby. There is a good chance that you won't be able to achieve this in a single run-through, but you can keep your progress and start the game again in New Game+ mode.
- A few trophies consist in performing specific activities in particular stages, such as giving a cowboy hat to Joel or winning a shooting competition. They are not very difficult.
- The last of Us 2 offers an option to replay stages (chapter select). You can use it to return to a specific stage in order to find a missed collectible or perform an activity related to a certain trophy.
Every Last One of Them
Trophy type: Platinum
How to unlock: earn all other trophies.
What I Had to Do
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: complete the main story.
Comment: the game can be played on any difficulty level, including the easiest one. Also, there are no penalties for changing the previously selected difficulty level from the pause menu. For example, you can lower your difficulty level if you can't handle a fight.
Choosing a low difficulty level can make it easier for you to reach the end credits more quickly, as you won't have to regularly sneak around or repeat many of the more difficult battles. The trophy is being unlocked after the game displays the end credits and loads the (new) main menu.
Survival Expert
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: acquire all Player Upgrades.
Comment: this trophy forces you to unlock all passive skills of Ellie and Abby. Each of the heroines can ultimately have 5 development trees and each of these skill trees offers 5 passive skills that can be purchased for supplements (a type of loot in the game).
Initially there is only 1 skill tree available and you have to unlock the next one. This can be done by finding training manuals in the game world - Ellie can find 4 manuals. Abby can also find 4 training manuals. The locations of these items have been described in detail in the Training Manuals, Passive Skills section of our guide.
It is highly probable that you will not earn this trophy in a single run-through of the game. That is because you won't find enough supplements to buy all skills. The solution to this problem is to play the game for a second time in New Game Plus mode, which transfers the progress made so far, including already purchased passive skills. The only trouble is that you're going to have to reach Abby's chapters for a second time to buy all her abilities.
Arms Master
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: Make a full upgrade of every weapon.
Comment: This trophy requires you to fully upgrade all weapons used by Ellie and Abby. You can improve your weapons by interacting with the workbenches and sacrificing scrap which you have found in the game world (a type of loot and resource). The whole process has been described in detail in the Weapon Upgrades, Workbenches section, and you will also find there information about the locations of the workbenches.
In Ellie's case, you have to buy all the upgrades for the gun, rifle, revolver, shotgun and bow. However, the silenced machine gun acquired in the later stages cannot be upgraded.
In the case of Abby, you have to buy all the upgrades for a regular pistol, hunting pistol, rifle, shotgun and a crossbow. However, the flamethrower obtained in the later stages cannot be upgraded.
It is highly probable that you won't earn this trophy in a single run-through the game because you may be unable to find enough scrap metal required to upgrade all your weapons. The solution to this problem is to play the game for a second time in New Game Plus mode, which transfers the progress made so far, including already purchased passive skills. The only trouble is that you'll have to get to Abby's chapters for a second time to upgrade all her weapons too.
Archivist
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: find all artifacts and journal entries.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. You can find complete information on where to find them in the Collectibles and Secrets section of our guide.
The artifacts are mostly various kinds of documents, but they can also be some sort of figurines or toys. You're gonna be collecting them while playing as Ellie and Abby.
The journal entries are a unique category of collectibles reserved for Ellie, who is the only character in the game that has a journal. After Ellie makes some new interesting discovery, an icon will appear on the screen that you can add a journal entry. You can read the journal during the game.
Master Set
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: find all trading cards.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. You can find complete information on where to find them in the Collectibles and Secrets section of our guide.
Trading cards can be found only when playing as Ellie. Once you get each card, you can optionally view it from both sides - it will contain information about the strength and characteristics of the character included on the card.
Numismatist
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: find all coins.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. You can find complete information on where to find them in the Collectibles and Secrets section of our guide.
Coins can only be found while you are playing as Abby. Once you have collected each coin, you can optionally examine them.
Prepared for the Worst
Trophy type: Gold
How to unlock: find all workbenches.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. You can find complete information on where to find them in the Collectibles and Secrets section of our guide.
Workbench tables can be found in both - Ellie and Abby stages. Once you've located each workbench - interact with it, even if you're not planning to spend scrap metal on new weapon upgrades.
Mechanist
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: fully upgrade one weapon.
Comment: This is a simpler version of the previously described Arms Master trophy, as only one weapon of any choice needs to be fully upgraded.
As a reminder, scrap is required for weapon upgrades and it can be found with other loot as you explore the game world. If you want to earn this trophy faster, focus on improving only one of the weapons you currently have. Depending on the chosen weapon, there will be 3 or 4 upgrades to unlock.
Specialist
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: get all player upgrades of one type.
Comment: This is a simpler version of the Survival Expert trophy described earlier, as only one category of passive skills needs to be upgraded to earn it.
If you want to earn this trophy faster, you can only focus on one skill tree, for example, Ellie's survival tree as shown in the picture above. Regardless of the chosen category, there are 5 passive abilities to unlock. Another skill can be bought for supplements. You will find these in the game world along with other loot.
Safecracker
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: open all safes.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. There are 14 safes in the game and we have described how to open all of them in a separate section of our guide - Safes.
You can find safes while playing as Ellie or Abby. Once you've located a safe, you need to use a special code to open it. Usually a full code or a hint informing you how to get it is written on some piece of paper in the area. The game will score this collectible only if you open the safe.
Sightseer
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: visit all locations in the downtown of Seattle.
Comment: this trophy refers to the Downtown stage, which is part of the Seattle Day 1 chapter (Abby). It is the largest location in the game, in which you can move around freely to a significant extent.
To unlock the trophy, visit all locations marked with question marks in the picture above. Each question mark will be checked out and crossed by Ellie after you search the location in 100%. You can also find more detailed descriptions of Downtown locations in our secrets and collectibles guide - Downtown map. In this section we have prepared a much larger map of the world atlas which contains the locations of all possible secrets and collectibles.
Earning this trophy may be problematic because of the in-game bugs, that is, you may not get it even after exploring all locations on the map. If you have not unlocked the trophy, try to reach all main areas again or repeat the stage. You don't have to complete the locations. You just have to explore them and make the questioner markers to appear on the map of Downtown.
Journeyman
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: find all training manuals.
Comment: it's one of many trophies associated with collectibles. You can find complete information on where to find them in the Collectibles and Secrets section of our guide.
Training manuals unlock new skill trees of passive skills that can be purchased for supplements. Ellie can find 4 training manuals and Abby another 4. The only thing that matters is to get them all. You don't have to buy newly unlocked abilities.
Survival Training
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: Learn 25 player upgrades.
Comment: This is a simpler version of the Survival Expert trophy. You must purchase 25 passive skills of your choice. These can be abilities of any of the playable characters - Ellie and / or Abby.
High Caliber
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: find every possible weapon.
Comment: you can find a list of all available weapons and gadgets in the Weapons and gadgets section of our guide (you don't have to worry about unlocking more gadgets). Just keep an eye on Abby's hunting pistol. It can be found during the On Foot stage. The remaining weapons should be acquired without any problems due to the progress of the game and through ordinary exploration.
If you have been collecting more weapons on an ongoing basis, you will earn the trophy after the (automatic) acquisition of the last weapon - a silenced machine gun for Ellie in the Santa Barbara chapter.
In the Field
Type of trophy: silver
How to unlock: find 12 workbenches.
Comment: This is a simpler version of the Prepared for the worst trophy. In this case you have to discover 12 workbenches of your choice. These may be workbenches found when playing as Ellie and / or Abby.
Tools of the Trade
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: craft every item.
Comment: the most important thing is that not all items can be crafted right away. You will unlock your next projects as you make progress in the main storyline and by buying selected passive skills. For a complete list of items that can be crafted please check the Crafting page in the Character Development section of our guide.
You can only get the trophy once you've advanced to the stages in which you take control of Abby. She can produce several items that were inaccessible to Ellie. Luckily, you don't have to produce common gadgets again (like a silencer), that is, items you've created before while playing as Ellie.
Tinkerer
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: upgrade your weapon.
Comment: This is a much simpler version of the Arms Master trophy. You should easily get unlock this trophy once you reach the first workbench table in the game. Select any weapon (for example, Ellie's gun) and spend the scrap to buy any of her upgrades (like increase the magazine capacity as in the picture above).
Apprentice
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: learn at least one player upgrade.
Comment: This is a much simpler version of the Survival Expert trophy. You should get this trophy in the early stages of the campaign without too much trouble. Use the first supplements that you have found to buy out the first passive ability from the survival tree (in case of Ellie).
Starter Set
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: find 5 trading cards.
Comment: This is a much simpler version of the Master Set trophy. You must play as Ellie to find 5 of any trading cards. For the record, they are one of the collectibles that can be found in the game world.
Mint Condition
Trophy type: bronze
How to unlock: find 5 coins.
Comment: This is a much simpler version of the Nuismatist trophy. You have to play as Abby to find 5 free coins. For the record, they are one of the collectibles that can be found in the game world.
