On this spoiler-free page of our guide to The Last of Us 2, you can find a list of all secrets available in The Birthday Gift level. This is the first flashback level associated with Ellie's character - it's one of the stages listed in Seattle Day 1 chapter. Despite the events of the past, several unique treasures can be discovered.
After you complete this level, you will return to the present day and continue playing as adult Ellie. However, you won't find the collected secrets in her journal. Fortunately, the game correctly records the fact that they have been found.

List of secrets available in The Birthday Gift level
You can find 5 secrets in The Birthday Gift level, namely:
- 1 artifact
- 2 trading cards
- 2 journal entries
Journal entry #1
The journal entry can be unlocked as soon as the characters arrive near the museum. Take an interest in the giant T-Rex figurine.
Approach the T-Rex, listen to Joel's conversation with Ellie and wait until the icon of new journal entry will appear on the screen.
The Nighthawk Trading Card
It's a trading card and in order to get it you must first reach the exhibition shown in the picture above.
It's on the bench on the right.
Journal entry #2
There are two round benches on the upper floor of the museum in The Birthday Gift level. Ellie can sit on one of them and draw a spaceship in her journal.
Saura Trading Card
It's a collector's trading card - a collectible. You can obtain it after Joel and Ellie will get out of the water and reach the closed museum building. Joel will boost Ellie, so she may start exploring new rooms alone.
Reach the room with the exhibition shown in the above picture.
Trading card can be found under the bench in the same area.
Suicide Note
It is an artifact and in order to find it you must enter the museum's unlit rooms shortly after obtaining the trading card described above. You'll find the secret near the corpse shown in the screenshot. Take the letter before you squeeze through the gap in the wall.
