Battlefront 2: Game modes Battlefront 2 guide, tips
Last update: 28 May 2020
This chapter contains descriptions of the multiplayer game modes. There are 6 available modes, each with different objectives, number of players, duration and rewards: Strike, Blast, Starfighter Assault, Heroes and Villains, Arcade Mode and Galactic Assault. The table below presents the differences between them:
Mode name | Number of players | Duration | Vehicles availability | Heroes availability | Rewards in credits |
Strike | 16 | 10-15 min | NO | NO (two support classes) | 200-400 |
Blast | 20 | about 15 min | NO | NO (two support classes) | 200-300 |
Starfighter Assault | 24 | 5-20 min | YES | YES (heroes' vehicles) | 100-300 |
Heroes and Villains | 8 | 5-10 min | NO | YES | 100-200 |
Galactic Assault | 40 | about 20 min | YES | YES | 200-300 |
Arcade Mode | 1-2 | about 3 min | NO | YES | 100 (5x each day) |
The rewards presented in the table above depend mostly on your performance (number of kills, completed objectives). The chapters below contain detailed information about each of the modes, descriptions for objectives and tips for each one of them.
Arcade Mode
Arcade Mode is for one or two players (cooperation). Here, you must face hordes of enemies controlled by AI. The objectives usually involve killing a certain number of enemies in a specific amount of time. You can choose from two scenarios: Light and Dark side. Each one of them has 8 scenarios with 3 difficulty levels which, in total, gives you 24 challenges per side. Completing all challenges will take you about 4-5 hours.
Are they worth doing? Not really. You won't learn much from them and they won't give everyone the same amount of fun. However, they allow you to test hero classes, you have to buy them first in other modes, in a quick and effective way. Playing any of the scenarios gives you 100 credits x10. They will get renewed after 10 hours. Thanks to that you can earn a few credits fast (you don't have to win a given scenario). If you finish them all, you can get a good amount of credits and crafting parts by completing multiple milestones.
Hint: if you really want to complete these challenges but you aren't good at them then remember that you can pick weapons and cards before you start a scenario. This means that your progress in multiplayer can help you in completing the challenges.
Strike
Simple missions for 16 players. One side defends themselves and the other attacks by completing scenario objectives. This must be done until one of the sides runs out of respawns (displayed in the upper middle part of the screen). After the first round you must play another one and, when there are no winners, players must face each other in the third round. Teams don't switch sides. A round usually takes about 5 minutes. This mode is a better way to learn the game's mechanics and unlocking milestones than Blast mode because many players are busy with completing mission objectives - this means that they can ignore you.
This mode is an easy way to level up your class because the gameplay here is very dynamic. There are no vehicles and heroes - just a pure clash of classes. There are two, randomly selected, scenarios:
Steal a marked object and deliver it to a destination point. If that item is dropped then someone has to pick it up. This must be done in a certain amount of time. After that the object will go back to its previous place.
Creativity is important here - try to use different paths during offense. The item can be escorted by classes such as Aerial (additional mobility) or Enforcer (high resistance). If the initial objective wasn't completed and the round is about to end, the attackers can try to deliver the item to the evacuation point one more time.
Capture two marked points. They can't be retaken after they are captured. The only thing that can be done is to cancel capturing process (by eliminating all units that want to take this point, after that you must wait a moment until that point becomes neutral again). When you are inside a point press the action button to start capturing it. Then, you must simply stay near it and defeat incoming enemies. A play-off can only happen when the last point is currently being captured by the attackers.
Hint: Specialists and Heavies are great for defending points. Officers and Assaults should be used as offensive forces. When your team's goal is to steal the object, you can literally run into a building and steal that item - usually, enemies focus more on guarding doors and increasing their killed ratio. Location of enemy spawn point changes when your team picks up the artifact - they respawn in the point of delivery.
Blast
Blast is the simplest game mode and an equivalent of a classic team deathmatch. Two teams, 10 players in each, fight on a big arena. A team that kills more enemies wins.
Number of remaining units of your and enemy team is displayed in the upper part of the screen (respawns). This mode is great for practice but don't count on your team - you are on your own here. This is a great opportunity for you to develop your character - everyone who participates in Blast gets a lot of kills which allows you to unlock new weapons and upgrades. Main classes for this mode are Assault and Specialist.
Hints:
- As a Specialist, you don't have to try to stay in high spots from which you can see an entire area. Circle around a map and stay close to its edges.
- There isn't much point in waiting for your enemies by standing near corners or in hard-to-reach places: respawn points for both teams change constantly.
- Try to go around enemies to get a lot of points. Many maps have corridors that are used by players, who just respawned, to reach a center of a map - enter the area that belongs to your enemies or go through those corridors and you will get a lot of kills.
Heroes and Villains
In this mode 2 teams with 4 players each play as heroes. First come, first served - each player chooses a unique hero. This mode's goal is to eliminate targets - players randomly selected by the game. When a target dies the game selects new targets for both teams. Teams' progress is presented by the points displayed in the upper part of the screen. A tagged player must protect themselves so they won't die and lose their team's points - play as a team play and stay together. Players who aren't tagged can die without causing any harm to their team. The gameplay is very dynamic and one match lasts usually about 5-15 minutes.
This mode is a great way to get a lot of milestones (e.g. each hero has 3 milestones connected to their abilities) as well as learning about these heroes and how to use them. Sometimes, players who unlocked unique heroes (such as Darth Vader) will have advantage over other players.
Hints:
- Unlock one or two additional heroes as fast as you can - mainly because you can have a greater choice before a match starts, you won't have to play as a hero that you don't like.
- Remember that every character with a lightsaber can deflect blaster shots (including the special ones) - you can do that by holding the aim button. A deflected shot can hit you or your allies. The only exception to that is Darth Maul who can't do this move - shoot him without any worries.
- Lure single enemies into traps, e.g. mines behind doors or places where you can push them off a map (if there are any places like that). When a whole group attacks you - run!
- If you play as a character with a lightsaber - your lightsaber's blade gets turned off after not using this weapon for a while. The lightsaber won't be ignited again unless you use an ability / start attacking / jump. Thanks to that you can be harder to spot from a distance (even though this may sound unimpressive, it really works).
Galactic Assault
This is the default multiplayer mode. Up to 40 players face each other on big maps where they have to complete objectives. These objectives are selected randomly. A side on which you play is also random.
There are two game modes: the first - e.g. on Naboo or Hoth - giant machines keep moving forward. If they aren't destroyed by the defenders (which is difficult to do), they later retreat to a closed area and defend themselves during next two stages.
Enemies must keep attacking. A full victory happens when the enemy completes all objectives. Number of respawns, displayed in the upper part of the screen, serves as a timer for completing objectives. In other modes, e.g. on Kamino, the first stage is absent - this gives the defenders a great advantage.
Hints:
- Sides are switched after a match (however, this is a completely new match) - if you aren't happy with your team or you don't want to participate in that fight then you should disconnect right away and search for another match.
- Use vehicles, heroes and support classes if you can handle them. Your gathered battle points are useless after the end of a round.
- Try to not die - a way from a respawn point is rather long (especially in the first stage). You can always count on an Officer's healing abilities. Stay close to your assigned team to fulfill objectives faster.
- The maps are great for all classes. Specialists and Assaults with a mid/long range weapons are great for the first stage. Officers and Heavies are perfect for defending a base's entrance and fights in narrow corridors.
